The oldest Accord I could find comparison numbers for is the 2008 model.
I had an '03 Accord. Sure the back seat folded down to supposedly expand trunk space when needed, but there was so much sheet metal behind it, with such a small opening cut out, that it was useless for hauling many things. I think the new 3er does a better job with that. The new 5er is a luxurious barge. The 3er is a lot more nimble, a lot more fun to drive.
