E90 started for MY2006, and went through MY2011. 6 model years.
E92/93 started for MY2007 and goes through 2013. 7 model years.

Most other recent cars had 7 model years, including E60/E65/E70, etc.

I think your "shorter cycle" theory does not have enough examples to be used as fact
