Its a small (relatively) displacement V10 that revs past 8,000 rpm. Its not a low rpm torque monster but it feels very fast when you can hold a gear all the way up past 8k. Its the exact equivalent of adding 25% to the current model M3 power plant.
You don't have to string it out in every gear to make it fun during ordinary driving, but I bet you'll find yourself shifting between 4-5k on a normal basis, which seems ubsurd and doesn't do any favors to your mpg.
I would also love an AW '10 (newer idrive) but finding a non-smg one is not much fun if I could call up the used car factory and have one made it would be easier. I've test driven a couple smg's and just don't think I could ever get comfortable with it, much less feel comfortable with my wife driving it and not hating me every time she got behind the wheel.
