E53 Voltage Regulator Brush Cover Removal
Does anyone know the secret to removing the E53 alternator spindle end brush cover that is attached to the voltage regulator? I removed my voltage regulator and now need to reinstall. It appears to me it wasn't meant to reinstall. The spindle cap has the two brushes going through it. The brushes need to be depressed and set inside the spring loaded cavity and at the same time the cap needs to slide off the regulator housing. Looks like a 3 handed job at least. I cannot see anyway to retract and hold the brushes in the housing. No alignment holes as in other regulators - using the toothpick or paper clip method. What is the secret?
