How to UNLOCK the OBC/Instrument Cluster

Don't freak probably didn't do anything. Once you turn the ignition off or press & hold the CC (check control button) for a few cancel this feature. If you didn't have the instructions to UNLOCK the probably didn't do anything. In the future, if you run across any of the "hidden" service mode stuff... ask the forum and wait until you get the information you need to understand what you're seeing to avoid messing up a components settings or calculations. You don't want to change stuff that you don't know how to reset...or reset stuff that you didn't know you were resetting.

Only TEST 1, 2, and #19 are UNLOCKED. And to UNLOCK the other 21 TESTs...requires adding up the LAST 5 digits of your VIN, then entering that integer in TEST 19. That will UNLOCK the OBC and allow you to access all of the other TESTs.

See the info below on how to UNLOCK the high instrument cluster (disregard that it says E38...all of the BMW high instrument clusters work the same way) the info below gives brief descriptions of what the screens of each TEST reveal.

If you're reading this and you have the LOW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (you have the graphic display and only one button on your cluster (left side) this link and scroll down to the instructions for unlocking the low instrument cluster:

HINT: some of the TESTs may be slightly different depending on which BMW model you have or what BMW market you're in. For example...TEST 3 below says that the info for SI (service interval display) in the first screen will indicate "km" since the last SI reset...when many owners may see "L" (liters) of fuel consumed instead of "km" driven.
