I noticed this when I picked up my car in April. I agree it probably is a place where you could injure your toe if you were seated in the rear and wearing open-toed shoes.

I pointed this out before I took delivery of the car. Discussions with the parts dept confirmed there is no part to cover it.
Then we tested it in the driveway:
There is no cap on the rear of the rail. The seat slides back over the end of the rail and if there were a cap, the seat would not go back as far as it should OR the sliding rails would rip the cap off.
I agree that it is not a good design. The best I can think of it to warn your backseat passengers to wear steel toed boot to protect themselves
