My reverse lights went out and I found the broken ground wire in the trunk. After fixing that my reverse lights wont go on so I took it down to the dealer and they told me the Footwell Module needs to be replaced for $925. I don't want to pay nearly a grand to the dealer so I ask if I take out the old one and replace it with the exact same serial number ie 6135 6961133 -02 will I still need to get it coded? I have read many posts and there seems to be a bit of confusion out there. Does anyone know yes or no for certain?
Yes, you will still need to get the FRM coded to your vehicle (vin, etc). If there is a coder in your area, they should be pretty knowledgeable as far as doing that properly.
Thanks. The only one I know of currently is the dealer who want $250 for the coding then $250 for labor and of course $400 for the part. I am wondering what rate anyone else has found from either other dealers or independent mechanics?
I had a headlight "bulb out" issue. The Footwell Module cut off power to the circuit due to a short circuit in the wiring. I replaced my headlights, but the lights would still not turn on. I took it to my Indy who plugged in his Autologic. Ten screen taps and 20 seconds later, the lights worked.
Total price...........$0.00, so I bought him lunch and a six pack.
The Footwell Module can be reset. Don't let a dealer tell you otherwise. $250.00 for 20 seconds of work is rape. $400.00 for a part you don't need is torture.
I found a guy from Atlanta that send me a cable and remotely reset my footwell module and registered a new battery all for $150. The dealership was asking nearly $1300 for the same repair.

I had to do some digging as it was a year ago I did it but this is the guy I used. It worked great and he did a bunch of stuff for me all for a set cost. His site will list all that can be done and costs.
Yes see if your covered first, if not then maybe look into a rebuild service or find a good used one but your gonna need someone that can code used modules as dealers cannot
Copy that well I’m finna get into it I just bought this 2011 BMW 328i and on the second day it’s giving me problems but I couldn’t pass it up 120000miles can’t beat that or the price.
