I pulled the removable cup holders and put them in the base of the drivers side door panel. I drop my loose change into them and find it easy to grab change as needed.
I rarely need change. For tolls I have a transponder. For parking meters I have my pocket. If I had more of a need then I would move one of the cupholder inserts that are rattling around in the glovebox into a cupholder.
This has been an issue for years, dare I say decades, with BMW. On one hand they are innovators and can change alot, and on the other hand suffer from age old issues without addressing them. :dunno:
I don't why they did not put one in the X3. There's plenty of space in the side door pocket. My 2003 BMW M5 has a coin dispenser built into the side pocket that fits flush and can rotate outward. Holds like 10 of each, quarters, dimes, nickels. They dispense one at a time. Pretty handy and organized.
