Tint them at a 35% grade - I used solar guard as I like that stuff. Did it today on mine and the tint shop (Win Tint USA - Coconut Creek, Fl) has a "tint meter" and we tested the privacy glass on the back windows. It showed 35.2 so 35 is right. Here's a pic after they were done:
I did my front windows last week as well with 35%. They are a little darker than the rears because the fronts already have a slight (70% ?) tint from the factory.
Be careful tinting the front windows in CA as well. There is a certain standard that they must meet -- generally so you can see into the interior of the car -- or you will be ticketed.
35% is allowed most everywhere and why BMW used it on the privacy option. It is dark enuf to cut the sun, but gives good, clear visibility thru it at night. I have used it on all my cars.
And BTW, don't even think about tinting the taillights like the ricer boys do.....if someone rear ends you and the LEO notices it, your insurance company (and his) are off the hook. You will be will hit you with the bill for both cars, and the guy may sue you. Has happened down here before.
Thanks for the link, according to that only 30% tint is allowed in CA on the front windows, not 35%. Not a lot darker than the standard OEM tint.:yikes:
Based on the above post about NJ not being allowed does this mean there will be absolutely noting on a car built for NJ. I find it hard to believe that BMW would go to that build level based on what state you are in. That's why I thought all were built the same especially state levels for the front vary widely.
In my case I live in NY but ordered from NJ dealer. Will that cost me the limited tint?
Based on your statement then all front windows would have the same (or none at all) tint on them regardless if the state. I agree that it would not be practical to build by state especially for window tint.
Looks great! It's illegal here in Delaware to tint the front windows at all, but everyone seems to do it. I might get my eye doctor to write a note saying I need it.... that usually works.
Cali is the probably the worst place to live when it comes down to state regulation!!! Other than the beautiful weather, what else is there? the uninformed , uneducated and the "helpless" and ofcourse the "suckers"
Well, there is also the beautiful scenery the diverse recreation opportunties (skiing in the morning, the beach in the afternoon) and of course the $$$$$$! Aside from the bureaucratic monoliths that are unanswerable to the public like our beloved CARB and the Progressive-Socialist oriented equally beloved legislature somehow we muddle through and manage to buy more BMW's and other high end iron than anywhere else in the US (of course CA has more people than anywhere else in the US too). So don't feel too badly for us, deprived as we may be, we still manage to persevere.:bigpimp:
I'm currently looking at getting ceramic tint done to protect my interior from UV (99% UV rejection). But if the privacy glass blocks UV, then I'm just going to do the front windows since the factory privacy glass is already plenty dark for me.
Privacy glass only blocks UVB. Actually even the nonprivacy glass does as well. Tint blocks UVA as well. So when I tinted my F25 I did 30% front and overlayed 40% on the rear privacy glass. I actually wish I went darker.
