The 4 corners of my rear windshield have crumbled into tiny little pieces. I've been searching for posts that address Just the corner pieces. These corner pieces do NOT appear to be one continuous piece of rubber that goes all the way around the window. They appear to be separate pieces that butt up against the longer rubber gasket. Don't know if PO patched them on or not. The rest of the rubber gasket doesn't need repair....just those pesky corner pieces.
If any of you know what I'm talking about...would appreciate Reading what you know. It would be great if I can find replacement corners only.
The corners unfortunately are not separate from the rest of the rubber strip. You have to get the entire strip that goes all the way around, except for the bottom part, which is separate.
Just did this last month. Though not as bad as your pic. Just started to show cracks at the edge.
2 parts Top: 51318159785 Bottom: 51318159786 The bottom piece is usually intact but will be more faded than the new top if replaced.
After replacing mine, I can say it is purely cosmetic. The whole thing is rubber wrapped around a metal frame and the rear glass is completely sealed with sealant separately so no water should be getting in.
It just channels water down around the trunk.
IF you do replace, take the opportunity to clean the channel and wax it. Helps to protect the paint underneath as well as easily slide the 3 sided rubber into place
Thanks dvsgene for part numbers! It's supposed to rain here over next few days. Sounds like it will be ok until I can repair later in the week. I found a you tube video for DIY. It's for a newer model, but still can use same techniques. I'm going to do this repair myself!
It can have significant noise effect thou. I can very clearly hear the wind noise from my shot seal at cruising speeds, as stated no risk on water leaks thou. Hence while I haven't quite been motivated to change it yet.
+1 on gummi... $12 shipped from amazon for 3.4 oz. It seems to stick longer than aerospace 303 which washes away easier. However, literature states that you cannot stop the rubber from destruction, only slow it down so if you can find a aftermarket from japan or china that fits I would give it a try as another European weatherstrip will also fail (one board member stated that it lasted three years before crumbling again). I'm waiting to see if anyone has success with plasti dip to prevent cracking on their weather trim. Others have carefully placed 3m black adhesive at cracks with success but if not careful it will look messy. Europe is very picky about what plastics and rubbers are used which is why they are so cheap. Japan is less picky about what ends up on the planet, I have a 12 year old honda civic with original weatherstrips looking brand new all around.
warning: if your front or rear glass has been changed the old trim may be extremely difficult to pull out completely and new weather trim may not fit. I recently cracked my front windshield trying to remove windshield trim away from glass (even with a plastic putty knife it can get ugly if not careful). Original windshield was replaced so when I pulled the old trim parts remained stuck in the indentation under the windshield. New windshield and trim should do it.
I used Gummipflege since I purchased the car some 6-7 years ago. All the rubber strips still look like new, no cracking and they feel soft to touch. I apply that stuff at least twice a year. Including the the rubbers around the doors, trunk & engine bay.

My E39 sedan has the same proble. I’m led to believe it is quite an easy fix for DIY, but I’m not prepared to spend good $$$ on an OEM rubber. Does anyone recommend a stylish replacement?
