Hey guys and gals, I'm new to bimmerfest, and I have a few questions about my car.
It's an 01 M3 convertible LSB with these options. LSB interior, navigation, and 6 speed not SMG. Car also only has 55k miles on it, and has a in service date of 6/00! I know LSB were only produced from 01-04, but at my local BMW dealer, the head service manager of over 20 years told me that my car was extremely rare, and he has never personally seen one like it! Any other opinions? I would like to know how many we're possibly made? And if this could be one of the first ones made? Thanks for any advice!
Was told that all dealers got 1 in late 2000 to feature the new M3. I have a picture somewhere that shows a whole fleet of them just off loaded from shipping. Enjoy!
The exterior color isn't rare, its the interior. That is what makes your car alittle less common most LSB cars had a grey interior. Post up some pics!!
Those one-car-to-each-dealer LB coupes were demonstrators, and initially remained the property of BMWNA. After several months, the dealer could buy the car. They were popping up on the market more than brand new ones. The delivery production rate back then was painfully slow. The LB demonstrators were "well broken in" by the time they made it to the dealers pre-owned lot. I think it was April 2001 when they started showing up.
I was on the waiting list, and got my first E46 M3 drive at a "Drive For the Cure" event. I showed up early in the morning and got the second ride of the day. The first one was the off-duty cop who moonlighted as the dealer's night security guard. I took him with me for my run, in case I caught the attention with one of his brethren. By mid-morning, the Traffic Division of the Virginia Beach PD figured out what was going on. They eventually stopped putting M cars in those events because of "problems."
Jumping onto this thread.
I'm into cars but new to BMWs. I just bought a 2004 conv. LSB M3 SMG with 78,000 miles (sorry, grey interior). I have two sets of tires and rims but both sets hav worn tires and a rim on each set is bent. I need to get it on the road with a solid but rather inexpensive fix to get rims and tires.
Can you recommend tire and rim guys to connect with? Thanks,Scott
Last year I fell in love with the LSB color and found a 2002 LSB M3 vert with a black top and interior ... and 26K miles!!! It came with an extra set of aftermarket wheels that were custom made for the car to max out the lip in front and back. Every time I take it out people stare or ask questions about it. Its my new favorite toy.
Sorry to bother you but do you mind telling me what you paid for your car? I am looking at a 2001 LSB Coupe with low mileage and I am trying to get a gauge on what it's worth.
@Goose81 I like the Grey Interior. a poster above me said that the blue interiors were the more rare. So I merely said mine is the grey one - not the more rare blue.

I have driven one and it was fun, however that's one thing the BMW dealer I deal with said to stay away from. When the SMG fails what seems to be the main failure on the transmissions? I know I can search and read about it all night though most likely.
Most shops have no ide how to troubleshoot SMG transmissions and often end up replacing the pump (big $$$) when a salmon relay (under $20 part) or another less expensive part usually fixes the problem.
I found a 2003 LSB convertible with a black top/interior and a manual transmission and 101k miles. There is a small coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose, or expansion tank?). Other than that the car has aftermarket rims and an aftermarket head unit. The rims are okay, however I will probably try to find a set of 19's for it. Someone has also turned the trim into an orange/brown color by painting it or covering it with something. Not sure how it was done, but I plan to find out soon. My biggest worry is what might have been done to the wiring in order to install the aftermarket head unit. As out of date as what a stock head unit would be I'd love to turn the car back original. The car should have every option except navigation. Anything else to watch out for with 101k on it? What would be a reasonable price on a car like this?
Thinking of selling mine. 6 speed, 35,850 miles. Never raced. Top is very dark blue, not black. No mods, all original except 19"CSL BMW BBS wheels. Has like new tires. I am second owner and have had it for 3 years. Only put 7K on her. No issues except small wear on drivers bolster and few rock chips. No paint work ever done. Want to be in the mid 20s. Not in a hurry to sell. Message me if you like.
