Factory warranty/maintenance is going to expire on 8/12 and it has 39k miles on it. I have a question about front and rear brake pad. Did anyone of you get the front or read brake pad replaced (rotor too?) during maintenance warranty period? I checked the onboard computer and it said front brake pad 12k miles and rear brake pad 4k miles. I was wondering if I can take the X5 in August to have them replace the front/rear brake pad under maintenance warranty before the front brake pad replacement light on?
Anything I could have it done before my warranty expire?
The dealership can opt to change the brakes up to 3k miles before the the clock hits zero. I have had this done on multiple BMW's before the maintenance expired but from what I have learned over the years, different dealerships will handle this differently
I would assume you can get the pads and rotors replaced if they wear down... the car doesnt 'measure' your pads nor rotors and hence your computer display is pretty much useless.
Not true- if they happen to inspect the brakes and they are under minimums, they will replace them. Doesnt matter what the CBS display says.
Now, will they INSPECT them? That's the hard part- they won't even look unless one of the 'rules' are tripped. (Or a low pad sensor gets tripped.))) Of course if you measure your own when you rotate tires and find low rotors or pads, you can tell them right front pad at xmm" and demand they get replaced.
Here is the problem... I just walked into the dealer today and asked the service advisor.
He said, THEY only follow the dislpay which means if brake pad light does not come on (Even computer shows 500 miles left). THEY will not replace it. That SUCKS :thumbdwn: Like the situation i have now. Computer shows 8000 miles left to replace the rear brake pad but warranty expries in end of Aug. I am driving 800 miles a month and I would not able to hit 8000 miles in end of Aug .
I also asked him what if am getting close to 1000 miles left show on computer but hear squeaking noise from the rear brake pad? HE said NO and they will not even remove the rim to measure it becasue light not on yet...
They have the latitude to look early- but if they spend 30 minutes and the pads are fine, who will pay them for the 30 minutes? You? No, they eat it.
This guy has a pretty poor attitude- probably burned out from ignorant owners demanding free stuff from him/BMW, and just decided to be a prick. Do you have a relationship with any SA at any dealer??? Or do you just use 'whoever'? IMO it is important to work on a relationship well in advance of needing help....
One day it says my brakes have 40k left and the next day I have a brake sensor warning. I agree the computer is useless. The pads and rotors need to be physically measured with a caliper.
As with replacement, my last front set was replaced with both the pads and the rotors.
