I've been beating around the bush here for a few months and thought I'd do a formal "Intro Thread"

Here's the info and some pics from when I bought her:

http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/833213

Here she is today after all the upgrades in my signature.. You'll note the two-tone I've got going on in the rear deck. I just repainted it with some Dupli-Color Fabric & Vinyl Paint. Came out great. Also just added a JL Audio 10w6 subwoofer in a sealed box being pushed by a 300W Orion Amp. Sound is much rounder now...just the way I like it..:)

Just crossed over 76,000 miles so a full tune-up is in process. Many more upgrades to come as well... M5 Bumpers and Exhaust are next....after I replace the Torque Converter. Also....does anyone know anyone that can straighten and refinish my LM Replicas? They've taken a beating unfortunately...

This is my 7th BMW, but I plan on keeping this one for a looooong time!

As I mentioned earlier, I purchased a used and broken M3 oval mirror. The internal magic liquid was leaking and visible behind the mirror's reflective surface.

I sent it off to Radar-Mirror.com to be repaired and had it back a week later.

Not my picture, but this is what it looked like:

This is what my stock mirror looked like:

Start by prying in the middle of the mirror base to create some separation to pull it apart:

Exposed the mirror arm:

Rotate the entire mirror assembly 45 degrees to the right to disconnect it from the base, disconnect the wires....leaving you with this:

Freshly repaired M3 mirror:

Installed in reverse order of the stock mirror:

Next up.... this:

Jason... you hit the nail on the head...18x8.5 all round, et 13, 74.1 Center Bore. I'll be running 245/40's on them and putting them on the E39. I got a smoking deal. These wheels are in very good condition from the pictures I saw and cost less than the BBS CK's I have on the car now.

I'm going to migrate the CK's to my E90 if they'll fit with a fender roll (et 20 offset).

BTW, thanks!! your signature pic convinced me that I wanted these RK's more than my CK's!!

Oh yeah...the M-Par's have been gone for a long time.

Also:

After I'm done with it, I may just start renting this thing out.

Thanks for the compliment. This car is definitely a crime of passion..

#317 ·
That, sir...is a Fender Roller!

Brief update.... Sorry to say, but the E39 has been retired from Daily Driving duties. I picked a 1997 Honda Accord LX for those chores this past weekend. 136,000 miles for $3,000. Clean body and interior, just needs a little mechanical TLC.

Cleaning up the garage so I can get the Stormtrooper in and on Jackstands. Then tearing things down to do all the maintenance/upgrades that have been waiting in the wings.

BTW, anyone want to buy a brand new, unopened set of NNR Coilovers? I'll cut you a great deal.

#326 ·
NNR I'm interested :)

#328 ·
Just picked up on Ebay.... from Circuit Motor Sports, in fact.. BC Racing BR Series Coilovers w/ Free Shipping and Free Rear Extenders for $995.00 :)

Ok. Came down with a bug late last week that precluded me from spending any time in the garage. I plan to finish rearranging the garage during the week and then begining tear down of the Storm Trooper on Saturday morning.

Here's the plan for Day 1:

Drain Oil & Coolant

Remove:

Radiator
Expansion Tank
Hoses
Thermostat
Waterpump
Pullies/Tensioner
Belts

Remove Valve Cover
Remove Spark Plugs
Remove CCV
Remove Oil Filter Housing
Remove Vanos Unit

Day 2:

Rebuild Vanos Unit w/ Beisan System's Vanos Seals
Reinstall Vanos Unit with new oil supply line, O-Rings and gasket
Install new CCV w/ new lines
Reinstall Oil Filter Housing w/ new gasket
Install new Spark Plugs
Reinstall Valve Cover with new gakset

Install EMP Stewart Waterpump
Install new Thermostat Housing
Install Rogue Engineering Underdrive Pullies
Install new Tensioner, Idle Pullies and Belts
Install new Coolant Hoses
Install Zionsville Super Cooling Kit (figure out how to wire this sucker up).

Fill with oil and coolant and look for leaks!
