Do I have to have that tool (00 9 300 in the first pic) in order to remove the old cupholder? I am not mechanically inclined; can someone give me detailed instructions on how to do this?

The 1998 528i that I just bought has an empty space where the rear cupholder was. I tried lifting the vent and inserting the new cupholder part (BMW 540i E39 CUP HOLDER 97 98 99 00 01 02 03 5 SERIES) but the bottom of the vent and cupholder don't seem to connect together. Do I need an additional plastic part to insert into the console that the cupholder part above fits into? Thanks
Same question; I too have that little shelf pocket and am wondering if the factory rear cupholders would fit there instead?
