There has been a bunch of OT threads lately, so i think we should try to keep it all the ot talk in one place. I know the e36 forum rocks, and all the other forums suck big time :bigpimp:, yet we need to stay on topic....

Hey, you will not hear me complaining. I love taking easy courses. I always choose the easiest course that will count for my diploma.:bustingup Forreal. I never saw a test like that in any of my classes, and I had a couple REALLY lame classes.

I'll just throw this out there.... Financial analysts make pretty good money.Guys, I need some advice. I know everyone has done everything on this forum, so I think you folks would be best to consult.
Right now I'm working at an indie, been there for 2 years, and we get mostly electrical work and domestic/jap cars. I've worked on some euro (vw), and then weird stuff like John Deere gator, ken worth trucks, skidsteers, etc. I really like the place, boss is awesome, don't need my own tools, and I can take off whenever I want. Only problem is, well, I don't make very much money. This wasnt so much a problem when I was 16, but it's kinda becoming an issue now. I have gotten two raises, and while I appreciate it and I'm not trying to say 'I want more', well I kinda need more to keep up with the ever-growing list of expenses.
To cope, I've been considering switching fields. As much technology involved as there is, the money just isn't there. So I've been considering welding, potentially trying for BMW step, and truck driving. I like welding, but not sure how it is as a profession. Same with driving trucks, I love 10 speeds and cummins m11s with air brakes. Hell, I pull around my trailer when I'm bored because I like pulling it  again though, I don't know how it would be as a profession. BMW step goes without saying
So, anyone with any advice who has experience in any of these fields? I would have to go to school for any route I chose, so schooling is moot in decision making. Ken, df, any of the seasoned vets?
My dream job would be a custom shop that includes fabricating, working on high end cars, with a bit of other cool things (diesel builds, etc). I like to create things and do things that aren't normal, and make one-of-a-kind vehicles.
:dunno:
Chad...I don't have any experience in these fields...so I can't help you there. But I do emphatically believe that you should do what you love. No regrets. Life is too dam short and unpredictable. If you go the money route (and you don't love it) you'll be old and gray with regrets or potentially scrambling mid-career (or whenever you truly evaluate your life choices) to find a job that better suits you. Trust me, of this I know...:angel:Guys, I need some advice. I know everyone has done everything on this forum, so I think you folks would be best to consult.

I can give some input from indirect experience and some from a "wisdom of age" point of view.Guys, I need some advice. I know everyone has done everything on this forum, so I think you folks would be best to consult.

I'm sorry but you haven't done your research on this. We were looking for CRAW certification, not CWE cert. Most of the robotic welding equipment manufacturers offer the cert course and several dozen vo-tech schools.DC lets not confuse the kid too much what you are speaking of isn't exactly a welder that you are in need of and more so a welding engineer which in the real world there are maybe 2-3 schools state side tops and take about as long to graduate from as becoming a doctor.
Um....do I want to know..?^whoa! I've heard of you... You're like a legend round here
Nah, but horn hospital talks about.Um....do I want to know..?
Missed you guys, sorry I keep vanishing. I know, terrible of me.

Almost as bad as the police issuing ordinance code violation tickets in my hometown for not having screens installed in your house windows...So we have our share of issues here in Florida, but this (Ed) is not one of them!
Seems like a good amount of money for a 318. Nice!My dad just sold his 318 for $4500.
Do some research on welding. There is a very large demand for really good welders, but you have to be REALLY good. When I worked at Oconee (nuclear plant near Clemson, SC) the welders made a ridiculous amount of money, and they were over-employed (i.e. when they finished one job they had 2 more waiting for them somewhere else).Guys, I need some advice. I know everyone has done everything on this forum, so I think you folks would be best to consult.
