I want to route a power supply from the glove box power supply to the center bin but can not find an easy way to route the cable.
Any ideas?
I recently installed a Garmin Nuvi 750 on top of the dash bin and ran the power cable into the glove box and connected to the flashlight socket:
1. Mounted the plastic disk that came with the Nuvi (using the self adhesive tape that came attached to the disk) onto the front driver side corner of the dash bin lid.
2. This location is easily within reach of the driver / passenger and still allows access to the bin.
3. When not in use the Nuvi may be stored in the bin out of sight of thieves.
4. Ran the power cable to the glove box:
5. Remove the 4 way flasher/door lock button by prying up from the bottom of the switch with a plastic putty knife.
6. Remove the plastic vent surround by prying from the top of the surround with a plastic putty knife.
7. Just leave the switches and vent surround attached to their wires and cables but push down and out of the way. You will be looking for two screws that hold the dash box in place.
8. Remove the dash box by removing two screws that are now accessible at the front bottom of the dash box unit.
9. Open the glove box, remove the flashlight, open the fuse box.
10. If you don't have a flashlight or socket for one, have the dealer install the both for free via SIB # 63 01 04.
11. You will also need the flashlight socket power adaptor. I got mine from ebay, don't know the model number. (easy to find)
12. Using a stiff wire with a small hook bent into one end. Fish down from the dash box hole into the top of the fusebox.
13. Hook the Garmin power cord to the stiff wire and carefully pull up through into the dash box hole.
14. I ran the power cord between the dash and the dash box unit on the windshield side of the box. I found that there is a good spot near the cutout for the dash box hinge.
15. Reinstall the dash box and make sure you have enough slack to reach the GPS location.
16. Reinstall vent surround and switches.
17. Back in the glove box, push excess wire back up above the fuse box and close and latch the fuse box.
18. Plug the adaptor into the flashlight socket and close the glove box.
19. That's it…done.
20. This really is a simple procedure and didn't take me more than ½ hour. Note I'm just a "hack" mechanic.
