We are close to ordered a 2007 V8 X5. At our dealer we test drove several vehicles and settled on one with the Sport package. My wife and I both liked the Sport seats but we are interested in ventilation which requires the Comfort seats. The dealer did not have any cars with Comfort seats fitted for trial. We know we can order the Comfort ventilated seats with the Sport package but we are not sure how the Comfort seats compare to the Sport seats in terms of fit, support during turns, etc. We are concerned because we did not like the standard seats. Anyone with any experience or advice: sport vs. comfort seats and reasons?
I cant speak for the Sports Seats, but I have the sports package w/ Active Ventilated Seats option.
IMO, if this is the only option you purchase it would be your best choice. I love the seats, they adjust in ways I wouldnt think were possible...very comfortable. The "active" part isnt that great (on a long trip, I will likely change my mind) , but I love the ventilated part....it works very well and cools you down and prevents your back from sweating on a hot day.
The seats are simply AMAZING!!!
What do you mean the 'active' part isn't that great but the ventilation is? I thought 'active' just referred to the fact that the seats were 'actively' ventilated with fans.
No, the active part means it has a massage action. It rolls the seat bottom, like a massage chair. It works ok, I'm sure on long trips it will be very handy.
Thanks for the update so far. It is very helpful. With respect to the comfort seats I have three additional questions: 1) are the seat bottoms long enough, 2) are the seats bolstered enough when cornering, and 3) is there anything about the comfort seats you do not like.
Can I get clarification on this--- since my wife loves the look of the perforated leather.
When you got sport package, which includes sport seats, they deleted the sport seats and added comfort seats when you added the active ventilated package as well?
See, my wife wants the sport seats WITH perforated leather and we are trying to see if this is possible?
Multi-contour aka Comfort seats are the best seat ever installed in a auto from the factory IMO. Try them and you'll buy them.
I sure hope all the post about them not being available are not correct. I'll be ordering my E70 in a couple of months and if I can't get these seats I guess I'll have to wait until October for '08.
Check with your sales person, I believe Comfort (Multi-Contour) seats are no longer available. I would think this includes the Ventilated seat option since the seats are the same. Definetely sucks since Comfort Seats are a must have for me.
Where is the info that multi-contour seats are no longer available coming from? Has anyone got any info from a reliable source? I hope this is not correct, because I have not ordered my E70 yet and gotta have those seats!
I'm VERY confused on the seats. I'm ordering an X5 today and I'm getting the following:
Sport Package
Premium Package
and the Multi-Contour Seats w/Lumbar Support option
Is this CRAZY? I don't know if 1/2 the money I'm paying for Sport package is for the seats. Or if the multi-contour come with any of the above packages.
Then I'm spending $1,000+ for the multi-countour seats, is it worth it? I saw it says "lumbar support" and I have back problems so I said I want it. NO idea what they are really are (embarrasing but thats the case)
Yes, the 20-way multi-contour seats are an approx. $1K invoice price option above either regular seats or the sports package. Should be a slightly reduced adder for if sports package is selected, but I don't believe it works that way.
But you do get your $1K's worth IMO. This option adds adjustable side bolsters (seat back width), power adjustable thigh support (not a real benefit), manually adjustable head rest lateral supports (similar to head rest on United and some other airlines), but what makes this option worth every penny is the upper portion power adjust forward to conform to your shoulders and upper back.
My suggestion is to find a BMW dealer with any model in stock with multi-contour's and try them for yourself.

Well 16 days later, I call BMW and they said the car is in line for production but hasn't started to build it... 34 days to build and arrive to Cali? I doubt it... The wait sucks
...based on a post from X5world...comfort seats are no longer available for March builds forward. The supplier is apparently under bankruptcy protection.
I am not sure if it is specific to Canadian orders, but others on this board and the other seem to suggest that is for both the US and Canada.

I talked BMW USA today and they said no such problems exist with the comfort seats and the supplying company is alive and kicking.
