I know the leather-Z kit has been out for a while. it just never sat right with me that a) it was almost 400 for the kit that fit the 335i ( tire + tools + spacer & bolts)
b) you needed to use a 15mm spacer to get it to work.

digging through the ETK, it looks like the leather-z spare is the spare from the E46 cab.
3.50BX17 ET:30

a little more digging shows that the E60 550i uses front brake rotors the same size (348mm) and thickness as the 335i. brake calipers look to be of approximate same size.

the compact spare for the 550i is:
4BX17 ET:18

the offset is close to that of the E46 spare plus spacer-- ET 15 for the E46 spare wheel + spacer vs ET 18

now the fun part. BMW sells a retrofit spare kit for the E60. it includes:

the wheel +tire diameter is within 2% of stock tires.

total price from tischer BMW, for the whole retrofit kit listed above, before shipping, is $239.

I've ordered up a set, will keep everyone posted as to if it works. if it doesnt, i have a new flower planter. if it does, a spare that works without having to deal with the spacer, and for a lower price.

I got another X5 jack and jack crank handle from local salvage yard. It fits the jack point on an E90 perfectly. Same price as the harbor freight jack $20+tax. Came from a 2005 X5.

The last one i bought cost alot more as i got it from an online salvage selling through ebay.

Hi folks, I just sold my E90, but I kept the new spare tire kit I got from getBMWparts.com (item# PKSPARETIRE).

I'm selling the kit for for $340 or best offer. Price includes shipping (lower 48 states). I will include the cargo strap that I used to secure the spare tire.

Paypal only, PM me if interested. Thanks.

---SOLD!

The Goo Solution?

Perhaps this is the wrong thred for this question, and if it is, I apologize.

We take delivery today of a new f30, 335i with the RFTs. I really want to swap them out for Pilot Sports but I am reluctant to give up trunk space.

In the 50 years I've been driving, I've never had a flat on the road. (Jeez, now I've done it!). Rather than a spare, can I simply use a can of the gooy tire sealant and pump up up the tire with a 12v compressor if I have a flat? I recognize that I would have to purchase a new tire as I believe the goo would prevent the tire from ever being balanced properly?

So, is the can of goo and a comrressor a viable alternative to carrying a spare? Appreciate any responses.

depends on the puncture. a nail puncture in the middle of the tread can be fixed with goo. a sidewall rupture from a pothole hit cannot.
there's also a distance limitation with goo, 50 miles.

i carry a plug kit, a contiseal inflator, and on long trips, the compact spare.

Looking for some thoughts on a spare. I realize i could go with the smaller spare tire kit but i also have 4 extra rims fir snow tires. I really do not drive the car much in the winter anyway. I am planning to go to runflats eventually and could i just place a full size spare with run flat in the trunk? I realize that you are not supposed to mix and match rft and nonrft but it would just be in an emergency to get 15 miles or so. I have aaa coverage as well. Wouldyou go with the soace saver or go with the full spare and just buy the jack frim harbor freight and lug tool off ebay.

I am not educated on the matter, but I would use your snow tire.

Me, I just checked out the offerings from ECS, BavAuto, Bimmerzone, and Tischer. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the Tischer. Thanks to Orient... 5 years later... :D Though the price has gone up for sure, and shipping for me is significantly more than for him, it's still the most competitive price for me.

Hi I'm new on this forum but thought this post might be helpful. I have changed from runflats on my e90 335d to non runflats and was looking for a spare wheel with not that much success, then locally I was offered a set of 18 inch MV 1s luckily the seller let me try them on the front and rear before I paid. And they clear the calipers and discs on both so are OK for spares. Hope this is helpful.

I bought a CPO 2011 328i xdrive sedan recently. It came with new runflats. Since they are new I've decided to keep them for now but I also want a spare. I've read through all the posts in this thread, and they are steering me towards two choices - a 135/80/17 spare from Bimmerfest, or a 125/80/17 from Bavauto. The size difference/diameter doesn't seem like much of a problem for a spare and the price is similar. I've already scrounged a jack and lug wrench so I don't need a full kit. Does anyone have recent experience with either spare or a recommendation one way or the other. Thanks in advance, Bob

I'm usually good at navigating web sites, but Tischer's has me beat. I can't find the spare on their site after trying various searches. Tried some old links in this thread, they go to the site's home page but not to the tire. In contrast, the other two sites I found the tire in under 10 seconds. I'm not inclined to reward Tischer for not making it easy. Any one with experience with other sites?

Nothing wrong with Kenda. I actually have their tires on my Schwinn Twinn tendem cruiser. I think some of the spare tire kits sold are configured with a Kenda tire. The only source I found was Honda Part # 42751-KEN-002 (135/80R17) which I think is the spare tire for Oddessy Minivans (this is based on part descriptions from online searches). If its good for a heavy minivan, it should be fine for my E93. Anyways, I called a few dealers to source the part locally, no one had it, so I just ordered the Conti CST from tirerack.

Changing Tires

Hello I have a 2007 328xi and I am wondering what the process would be or how diffucult it would be to change from RFT's? Also I am hearing a clanking noise coming from the rear passenger side at times, it happens most when making turns. Thanks for any help I can get.

Ahhhh...the process? Pretty simple.
Go to your local tire store and get a non-RTF tire and while your there, have them diagnose the clanking noise.:)

If you stay in populated areas, that may work. If not, I would add a prayer book too.

In July, I had a punctured tire in the east side of Glacier National Park on a Saturday afternoon. (Fortunately in the Benz, not in the 328i!) Its an giant Indian reservation with no towns to speak of, and nothing open on the weekends.

If I had not had a mini-spare tire, I would be hanging around the Indian Casino for 3 days waiting for another tire to be shipped in. As it was, I had to drive 120 miles to Costco in Missoula, MT for a replacement tire on Sunday.
