The Bimmerfest board software changed recently in case you haven't noticed. This was done for many reasons, one of which was added security (The E46 folks tend to get restless!). One drawback of the new software however, is that the description that used to appear under each person's name on the left hand margin "what I drive..." is gone.

I (some of us) think it's important to know what model each of us drives. This makes it easier for one another to help each other diagnose problems and offer suggestions.

If you are willing, please add a signature to your profile and describe what car you drive in as much detail as you like. This is easy to do. Click "User CP" in upper left hand corner. Then click "signature". Type away. Again, this is totally optional but it does make it easier on some of us when trying to help people out. You don't need to put a picture of your car or some soft core porn or anything elaborate, just something basic to get the information across.

If you hate signatures and you do not want to see them, there is a solution. Click "User CP". Click "options". Under the category "Thread View Options" you can turn off signatures and/or avatars.

We will keep this thread sticky until someone says they have had enough of it.

Hey Jon,

I got one for you; how can I get my ///M Dragon that is now at the bottom of each of my posts over to the avatar?

When I go to "my page" it won't let me change the do not use avatar mode.

I would then put a shot of the Hearing Associates/Leather Z M Rdstr at the bottom of my posts...

Randy and Jayhox,

Avatars are a sticky subject (no pun intended) at Bimmerfest. Some folks are pretty serious about those. :dunno: Supposedly, you need 1000 posts to get one. The trick is, most Bimmerfest people tend to post about 900 useless posts, 50 semi-interesting off topic ones, and 50 helpful posts. Then they get 1000, then they get an avatar.

Scott and Andy and I could talk Shafer into getting you guys avatars - despite your dismal post counts (that is sarcasm by the way) - but then all of the E46 fruitbats would go nuts. Even though they don't come in here very often. It'd be anarchy toadfly-style. I'm not sure it's a good idea.

On the other hand, of all the posts in the Z-series forum, I'd say about 1% are off topic and/or not useful. Almost all are worth reading and high quality. So maybe we should be judged by a different standard.

Also, Shafer did mention a clause about if you are a "founding member" of Bimmerfest, the 1000 post avatar deal could be waived. I think Randy, Stygar, Max, TeamZ4, Linquist, Gary Brown, and a few others certainly qualify. If you think you qualify, send me a priavate message and I will see what I can do. If you think avatars are lame, that's okay too.

Kevin,

I think you could get away with:

BMW-less at the moment
One of the founding fathers of 318ti.org
You pulled that out from a long time ago...
I actually stayed on the list for a couple of years after I sold the ti, but after a while I lost interest. Many of the original personalities had moved on.

The next BMW for me will most likely be another Z3; preferably a 6 cylinder version this time.

I have had no luck getting a photo avitar posted either so I tried adding one below my words in the post (signiture?) but that asks me to hit the edit button (I don't have one!).

Heck, I am cool with anything. I have lurked forever, but was driving a 3-series for the past few years and did not have the cajones to jump into the board full force -- thus the low post count. Now that I am driving a Z4, I believe I have more input because the people here are more open and discuss more worthwhile issues. Also, being a new model, any help/opinions/advice/experiences are highly valuable.

The REAL reason I should have an avitar would be that I am a Roadfly convert!!! ;) I still post from time to time over there because the Z4 board is very active regarding glitches with the new Z4, dealer service experiences, fixes, etc. The rest of the site is basically trash.

Jayhox,

I think you qualify for an avatar based on your registration date. Jan 02 makes you an old timer. In a few days, I will submit a list of names for avatars to Shafer and we'll see what we can do.
 :wow: :drink:  :beerchug: :guitar:   :fruit: :supdude:
