Although I don't drive like a maniac I think I need to have a decent radar just to be safe. Which radar is best? Can't find previous threads.
Thanks

3rd vote for V1...don't even hesitate. Pick up the remote display, too.

False Alerts

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I have constantly heard that V1 is the best as well. However I hear it tends to "false" more than others. Is this true? I drive by a few strip malls and such going to work, and would hate to become desensitized to numerous falst alerts? I have heard the Passport 8500 x50 is as good but fewer falses?

I've had my V1 for years. Definitely the best! Directional indicator is a great feature. Also - great company to deal with - I had a problem with the laser detector going off all the time - they fixed it for nothing even though the unit was 3 years past warranty expiration.

As for false positives - they all do that - but V1 has two volume controls - 1 for "questionable" signals, and another louder one for strong or close signals.

How long has the V1 been on the market?

We are contemplating purchasing one as well, but sure hate to pick one up just before they introduce a new and better model.....

My old Passport (yes, that old! :D ) did a great job in its day, but is seriously outdated today..... I think that it was the last model to come from Escort before the founder left and started up Valentine.

It has been marketed for ages. However, even the earliest model can be upgraded to the latest-and-greatest for substantially less than the cost of a new unit. Click here for more info.

lidatek plus passport 8500

RADAR is only half the threat these days...won't help you against LASER. My opinion...spend less on the RADAR unit by getting a Passport 8500 and put the savings toward a laser jammer. ie. Lidatek.
local hi fi dealership suggests escort hard wired system sr-7 i beleive it is called, plus the escort version of lidatek. total with installation is like $1300. that is a lot of money if you ask me...cant we just get by with the radar detector? i know the answer--not if you want be sure you are not going to get nabbed.

Shop around. I got the 8500 through a price match at BavAuto for $249 and I bought the Lidatek through a group buy for $400 I think. Installed it myself with the help of a friend or I'm sure you could get a local shop to install it for $150 max.

Again, my vote Valentine 1

I looked around at a few radars, i also picked a valentine 1...its the best on the market. Allthough a little expensive compared to other radars...you get what you pay for. It really helps out a lot! I cruise daily at 100 goin to work..no problems.
