I know I've brought this up before, just checking again to see if anyone knows of one. I thought I found one on ebay but the guy was honest and told me he thinks it was repaired. I do NOT want a repaired wheel. I have one on my car now and it's bent again. I just don't want to go to the dealer for a new one at $700.
I know Richard has 3 but I don't need 3 wheels to be honest. Not unless I plan on bending more, which I guess is a possibility in Chicago.
My tire insurance company just replaced a cracked rear 303 wheel, a front tire (large bubble), and straightened a front 303 wheel that was bent. I swear I can feel the front wheel still bent.
Since March I have had 4 cracked or bent wheels in Chicago, so Richard's wheels might not be a bad investment.
These rims will bend very fast. I wouldn't worry about buying a repaired rim. After driving for an hour, I can assure you that the rim will be bent .
Just my opinion, but unfortunately a fact..
On my 2011 550xi with msport I went threw 34 tires in one year, and 6 rims. They were all always bent. These rims with these low profile tire does not work on our roads. My 2013 750, I only replaced 7 tires so far!lmfao
100k for a car and they can't figure out how to stop the tire and rim destruction.
If you had 34 tires replaced in one year have you ever stopped to consider that the driver might have something to do with it?... Just saying... You can't seriously blame the manufacturer for you driving into pot holes.
You would think I hit every pot hole in the world, but in reality I only hit one! The rest were from normal bumps, those Goodyear run flats suck. Dealer said he had over 3000 tires that were being shipped back to Goodyear because of bubbles. I'll take the blame for one incident. Because of everyone having the same problem, Goodyear stopped there road hazard warranty on the tires. The Goodyear excellence on the 750 have no road hazard warranty. Thank god for insurance..
How about getting the strongest (probably heaviest) set of 20s available? I'm not sure if there is any data available that would help you make that decision.
WOW This thread scares the crap out of me to order my 7 with the 20's.Our roads are pretty good but those numbers are crazy.I couldn't bear going through one episode of tyre problem with my 135i.Does anyone know with the 19inch rims have similar problems?I spoke to my dealer and he said that the bubbling is as common on the 19inchers too.
I recommend speaking to your service advisor and see if they have issues. The roads around here (North Dallas) are excellent, and I've been driving on BMW stock 20s (the turbine style) for 18 months with no wheel issues. I've had 1 Goodyear bubble, replaced gratis under the prior road hazard protection. I have no hesitation in going 20s again, and would prefer to get the Pirelli's if I had the choice. If I did get Goodyear's, I'd buy a tire protection plan from America's Tire.
Is it possible to get wheel & tire insurance on a car that you've already been driving around on? Maybe they do some type of inspection? This time around the dealer wanted too much for a policy so I declined. Didn't have any problems with the 19's on my last 7, but I'm guessing these are more fragile in combination with the lower profile tires. Typically I alternate insuring certain things in life that I only find moderately risky, so with car tires and rims it's usually every other lease - but hearing about the fragility of these bad boys is making me second guess my actuarial skills!
Why don't you sell me one of your front wheels and then go buy a custom set? If I had one more front, I would have a complete set and would do a black chrome on them just to have some change now and then.
Never had a problem with the insurance replacing all those tires, and after talking about this stuff over the past two days, I just got another huge bubble in tire again of the 750. I hit a small bump, looked at my partner and said there goes another tire! Sure enough I need one..
I believe it's the added weight of the RWS that pushes the load on the tires and wheels over their acceptable threshold. I have no RWS, and I have had no problems. The connection is indisputable. I also have tire and wheel insurance that they threw in with a few other things to get me to buy my 7. At the time I thought it was just a BS sales tool, but it sounds like it may come in handy, should I ever retrofit an RWS. :bigpimp:
Be warned now, just ask Ghost Protocol what happened when he tried to please the RWS gods with a retrofit.....:thumbdwn:
