Hey guys, I did a search first and there sure doesn't seem to be anyone modding these cars... I have had a few BMW's over the years, and have always enjoyed modding or personalizing to my tastes. And I know, the aftermarket scene is not for everyone, but it just seems like theres NOTHING available!
LED taillights, tinted windows, maybe different wheels, exhausts, intakes, etc. And before anyone lambaste's me, I know these are all personal preferences, but I think modding can be done tastefully, while giving it a more distinct European look.
I think this looks absolutley stunning (minus the go-fast stickers, of course)...
About the cornering in the x3, for what it is the X3 is a VERY capable performer in turns and such. But the way you drive also will allow you take corners faster/better. Letting off the throttle right on the crest of the corner, and slammin the throttle on the end of the corner provides a huge smile on your face afterward.. I surprised some kid in a modified Civic Si once around a high speed corner, that makes me proud to have him staring at the BMW emblem after the curve while he was stuck behind me The amazing thing is the X3 will actually oversteer if allowed by the deactivation of dsc ...at this point most other SUV;s would be on 2 wheels or turning over.
I think we were discussing mods for our X3's, but you certainly have a valid point concerning handling. Being a very new X3 owner I am more amazed every day at the cornering capabilities of this SAV!! Looking forward to a little snow here, any day!!
wow, I got me a good little thread going here! I'm glad to see maybe I sparked some interest in personalizing your various X3's! I love it, keep the posts coming! Here's my update, I recieved my blackline taillights late last week and finally got to put them in over the weekend. I de-badged it at the same time. Next up, blacked out grill. I'll post pics of that when done too. Oh, and in desperate need for some new tires, but thats hardly a mod...
uhhhh I will get my A/C to stop leaking first haha (Im moving to the Pacific Northwest soon thank goodness!!) but so far all I have done to mine is the OEM tow hitch and a Ipod integrator, but soon to come will be KW coilovers, staggered 19's MAYBE a CAI and one of the programmers from Bavarian autosport...oh yeah and Im going to get the EBC slotted front brakes and cool carbon pads
Here is the lights and one of the sub covered as well. Just took the tail one this morning for you guys. I didnt go too dark but it did change the look.
Thanks. The ride is amazing. They were bought in Cali and shipped up here to me in Canada. They are 20" and 9.5.
The tires are 275/40/20. Cost me around $1600
Replica rims no problems. If you do get them make sure you get hub centric rings. They vibrated until I put those on. It's only like $10 for those. Hope this helps. I found them on eBay and called them direct and ordered on the phone. Love them.

What offset are you running and what is the bore size that were on the replica rims? Where is the seller located at? Could you post or PM me his/her number? Thanks eh!
I'm not sure about the offset and bore numbers. I let the pros tell me what I needed.
I will say that when I first got them they had a vibration. I called the store and they shipped me out hub centric rings. After that no problems. They are centre mount rims
The company is called wheelplus USA. I found them on eBay. Basically if you search BMW 214 rims you will see them on eBay.
Not sure if were allowed to post phone numbers here so I'll pm you the number.
The 20's look big enough to fill the wheel arches. I'm wondering if the 22's that they have would look too blingy on the X3's? Not that I would bother with them, but for only a couple bills more, it seems like a great deal! What size tyres are you running?
Hi guys,
I am going to join this thread. I have a 2005 X3. It was primarily my wifes car. I was going to sell it b/c I traded my 135 for a 2011 335xi Sedan. But I would lose about $5k on the sale so I am going to keep it. Hence I am here looking for some mod ideas'. I personally would like to lower it just a little bit (since my front shocks need replacing anyway..). I would also like to get the black rims that WHITERASTA (funny name...) has but in silver. I would like to update the body to a MSport but I think that is long shot.
Any ideas are appreciated..
BTW I really do like this except the rear spoiler and the side vents (as everyone thinks..)
Thanks guys. I think that 22's will fit from what I've been told. But the tire needs a 30 profile. Too small for my liking. More than likely will end up with cracked rims and bent rims.
i would like to do some mods to my 2004 x3, i ordered clear white headlights and fog lights and carbon fiber emblems, i really wanna smoke out the side markers and somehow do the clear corner headlight as well. and how much would the blackline tail lights be?? sorry im asking so much, im very eager to mod my x3 so its unique! also if anyone knows of any front and rear bumper kits!!
I haven't done any of those things. But I can't wait to see your pics when you do them. Please keep us all updated and post pics. Love to see other people out there tweeking the look of these great machines. Best of luck.
Omg I hope not. I might just have to close out my account if they start coming after me like they do you. I'll tell them to pound salt and start their own tv show on the learning network.

i got the carbom fiber emblems, so far i got them on my wheels because that was easy, just popped them out with a screwdriver and put these in. i dont want to risk taking off the oem emblems and not being able to put the carbon ones on so i have t ofind someone who can do that. ill post pics when i figure out how to do that on here, im gunna smoke out my side markers hopefully this weekend if i dont drive down to maryland with my gf lol.
and anyone knwo if a clarion system will fit into my 2004 x3?
yaehh its just the over lays...they look good, but i need to find where to get the actual roundels, the ones i have are like some kind of plastic i honestly dont know, i thought i did my research but obviously not. if you can send me alink for the ones you found that would be great ill post pics when i find out how to do that on here
The back cannot be removed as it is one solid piece. Only choice I have seen is to place it on top of it by drilling two holes. The front will pop up and off.
I think I may risk grinding it down after i look up how much an oem replacement will cost if I screw it up.
i brought my bmw to this really good customization shop in my town, they are really good and it also helped that my girl friends dads friend owns it lol so they got me everything i wanted for my car as to what i can afford right now, so basically just got me all carbon fiber emblems and even did the steering wheel one which i didnt get a pick up yet...once i get more money i am going to get the alpine speakers put in which arent much so probably by my next paycheck...than i want to either get my from and rear bumper painted (the bblack plastic part) or get a whole body kit like the one in this pic i saw on this thread...here is what i got so far...idk how they did the trunk emblem but it came out amazing...as soon as i find out how to post pics on here
They look great. Are they the ones I suggested from Jlevis?
Ps they Alpines are stupid easy to install. I can do them in both doors in about 45 minutes.
Should be easy for a "Pro".
