Just like the title says - I want to know how to put the car into neutral without turning the key to start the veichle. The car lost all power when it was flooded by SANDY. I know about disconnecting the driveshaft but i hope theres a better way of doing so.
I assume it's in Park now. There is an interlock solenoid in the linkage, accessible from the shift boot. You may be able to manually disengage this lock.
Check on the E38 forum.
OTOH, if the car got any water inside that flooded the floor, consider it a total, and ask your insurance company to total it. If you try to resurrect this car, it will plague you with electrical problems all of your days.
Pull up on the shift boot, and you will see a long lever that is approx 5mm thick spanning the whole length of the shifter range. With a screwdriver, pull up on it and move the shifter to neutral.

Obvious it's not Chinese Igor! (No Khan-chi characters here)
It's something I had combined and formed my own.
But if you guys ever decoded the meaning of it, I will be glad to send a 10 dollars Star-Buck gift card.
