Don't understand this stupid law,NY & NJ,70% V.L.T,but in Connecticut you are allowed 35% V.L.T,can someone tell me if the sun is brighter in Connecticut?:dunno:
I got pulled over in Raleigh on a cloudy rainy day,cop said my windows were tinted too much, had 35% on my Maxima, showed him my badge and he let me go with a warning but still said that they were too dark, must have been a slow day.
oh yeah raleigh cops are real bored. they used to pull me over all the time got so sick of them i had to move back up north (i am also from ny originaly) Raleigh cop gave me a ticket once for honking my horn at a guy who just stopped in the middle of an intersection.
I have really dark tint on my 335 -- pretty sure it's as dark as i could go shy of limo tint. The only time I've been pulled over in the BMW, I rolled all four windows down and stuck my head out the window to make eye contact with the highway patrolman as he approached. Not sure if that brought him comfort, but I got off with a warning doing 11 over.
As for your tint, I like it. In hindsight, I'd have gone a little lighter on mine. But yours looks really good.
I live in NJ and the law is no tint at all on the front windows and front windshield. I really want to get mine tinted, but I also want to abide by the law. However, having tints on the back and not the front won't look good in my opinion. Would I be painting that big of a bulls eye on my back if I were to tint everything?
State laws vary on tint. Check the law and stay within it.
And if you have dark windows and get pulled over, don't blame the cop if he/she has a gun out when they approach the car. If they can't see in, they're in more danger - and you will be the cause of it with the tint. So understand what you're asking for.
I'm not a big fan of dark tint. If you exceed the legal limit, you can be ticketed and required to remove it.
Thanks Averdi. They are 17" part of me wishes I had gone 18 or 19" now they are on. Only other mod I dither about is the side repeaters I have changed the bulbs from stock amber to chrome that flashes amber but wondering if I should swap for the smoked units.

I wouldn't want to be the cop walking up on a car with really dark tint on the I-15 at night. I'm sure that is why the law exists. My son got medium tint on his truck and I have to roll down the windows at night just to see out of the sides. I think he's gotten lucky so far. And the truck is black. It sure looks good though.
Every state is different and some are just plain dumb / confusing (PA has 2-3 laws and they contradict each other). Given that, most cops couldn't care less. If Barney 5.0 is harassing you then either 1) you did something to annoy him (e.g., mouthed off) or 2) he is a douchbag.
If you ever get pulled over then roll down all your windows and open your moon-roof and turn on your interior lighting. The cop will be able to see inside and not care. Many cops get their cars tinted as well.
Now if you get pulled over, have the music thumping, windows rolled up and smoke oozing out of the cracks..well then you may get in trouble.
You know what annoys me about some of the laws...if it is self installed it's illegal, but if it came from the factory (even if darker) it's perfectly legal...
Potential other safety reason to have a tint on the front windows that is light...
As a road cyclist, I rely on making eye contact and waving at drivers as I go through intersections to make sure they see me. I try my best to be seen with blinky lights and neon colored cycling shirts. However, with a dark tinted front window car, I have no idea if the driver knows my tragectory may cross their path. I would think motorcycles have similar problem.
