My aircon operates at full blast even on lowest setting

The aircon and fan in my car works at maximum blast even though the setting is at its lowest - the +/- setting has no effect apart from when the AC is turned off completely. This applies when AC is on and off. Anyone else had this problem?

Your "final stage" is gone. Very simple fix at the dealer. About $140.

Do a search on "Final Stage Resistor" and pick one up (~$50 ish) and replace it yourself. I assume you have an E39? If it is still under warranty, the dealer should cover it for you...mine was replaced once.

Great info! That's exactly what my 00 528 does. The local dealer suggested that his shop can "re-build" the ENTIRE SYSTEM for me. Can you explain to a DIY'er where the final stage resistor is located and what it looks like? This site rocks. Many thanks from a new member for all the $$$$$ I've saved in tha past week. Shouild also mention that I have built probably a dozen small block Chevrolet engines but was completely intimidated by the six cylinder beneath the hood of my BMR.
