Brake Lights not working and (Check Engine light on)

Thanks for all the help in the past. I now require help once again. I have a 1997 BMW 318is (E36) My break lights are not working. I changed the bulbs and still nothing. The turn light works, the reverse light works and the running lights turn on when u turn on your head lights on both sides but when u press the brake peddle no brake light on both sides. I got the bulbs from a autoparts store and still nothing. I checked the fuses up in the engine area and they are all good.

Second issue is my Check engine light, its been on for about 2 weeks but im not sure what the problem is or how to find it. I read alot of posts on here and they is it could be the O2 sensor is that possible?

Thanks for all the help and advice in advance.

Thanks,

JR

Hey buddy, the check light is probably for the failing lights. Best get your codes pulled

The E36's had well documented rear cluster issues.

Have you checked your fuses? Your brake light switch may also be on the blink...mine was

You will need to take your car to a BMW specialist with the equipment or by a peake/draper code tool to get them mate

Here is a DIY for the switch - http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech...ake_Switch.htm
