2008 BMW X5 Mileage
First off, I want to say that I am SORRY if anyone has started this thread, please don't brand me as junk or rubbish. I have searched part of the forum, but there are just too many pages. I found one similar thread, but he wanted to know about an '04 mileage.
My question is, what mpg's are you guys getting on the '07-'08 4.8i? post the mpg's on the 3.0is too, if you don't mind. Thanks! By the way, I am getting 8.2 mpg after 56 miles of driving on the road, and a few miles off the highway. Cheers

hmm...thats interesting. i hope my mpg 'evolves' to a better one. I drive ferociously, as I fly off the lights, and averages 40-50 miles on the road. I just could not resist the power of the engine roaring before me. I hope that doesn't destroy my mpg.

hmm.. this is strange. at 90 miles, my 4.8i is giving me 6.4 mpg, dropping it from 8.2 (i havent took the highway since)
is this because it has not break in yet?

Same here, my 4.8 with 40 miles aver. 8.2 street only - kind of crazy. I could imagine when I will start pushing it to 6-7K rpm, it would probably aver. 5-6mpg - no fun

07 4.8. I drive about 70/30% city/hwy respectively. After 13,000 miles, am averaging 15.3 mpg over the last 1500 miles (~1.5 months).
For you lower-mpg folks, are you driving it in sport? That significantly lowers mpg rating when I do. I tend to fly off lights and routinely accelerate on the highway (thanks Escort for the radar protection), so I am not light-footing it by any means. Reln |

I recommend giving your engine some time to break in...I no longer have my X5 (an 04 4.4) but the mileage improved considerably once I got over 1000 miles on the odometer.
My lifetime average on the 04 (I never reset the second trip computer) was 18.8mpg (combined city/hwy). The 4.8 in my 650 was somewhat the same....Early mileage really sucked (though not nearly as bad as you report, but there are obvious vehicle differences), and then improved with time. Also, watch your oil usage CLOSELY in the first 1000 miles.

1,611 miles and my wife (a lot more gentle with the gas petal than I) averages about 12.1 miles. she usually drives the kids to school and to the mall. We have not gone in a road trip yet.

Highest was about 18.1 on a trip. Combined driving at about 55% highway, 45% city is about 15.8. |

Wow, I'm getting 19.5mpg city in my 2007 X3 auto, sounds like the X5 is almost the same. I get 22mpg highway going about 75-80mph. Damn, I should be driving an X5!

With fuel prices, and BMWFS financial woes, V8 SUV's will take a resale bath. Be sure you are leasing.
By the end of the year we should start seeing the X5 diesel which will get around 25MPG.

Of course wind direction plays a big role in mileage. On a state 2 lane highway at 63 mph I recently got 25.7 on my 08 3.0 with a tailwind of 15 or so. Headed back the other way I got 21.3
