Remote Start
My wife wants to get me a remote start for Christmas. What are out options? Is there factory options or do we have to go aftermarket?

Let alone the recommendation from BMW below...you will need to sacrifice a key...your car won't start unless it can read the ISN (individual serial number) that is sent from your key to release the Drive-Away-Protection system. This means that if someone were to break into your car...your car could now actually be hotwired and started since you've supplied them with the last piece of the puzzle they need to start the car without having a key.

That is no longer true. You don't have to sacrifice a key for the remote start anymore. I was checking with a place called AutoSound here near Dallas because I bought a biometric fingerprint car security system and it has a autostart feature with an additional remote. I looked online and found the method where a key needs to be used and the guy at the shop said that used to be true but now they no longer use that and they have a oem bypass device. He said he has installed remote start devices on bmw's and the new method is safer because the key method pretty much disabled the EWS since it was always in the car. I would contact a decent stereo installer and see if they can suggest something that works for your car.

Even the great shops don't have parts for all car integration. If there is a module for my 2003 BMW 530I forward me the info. I will pay good money for it. I sell and install the modules and don't sell the part for my car.
