X3 With M Badge
Hey everyone, after track today i was on my way to get some food and i walked past a X3, but it had a ///M Badge on the left hand side. Is this an M tech X3? is there such a thing? or was this just a poser?

The sport package X3 has M stickers and tricolor theme all over it from the factory -- wheels, steering wheel, door sills, maybe elsewhere. In the UK at least, the public (if not BMW) calls that model the "M Sport" (see my sig). So even if an "M Sport" is not an "M3," "M5," or "M6" (which have serious performance upgrades), it's not surprising that some X3 owners choose to stick another M on the hatch. Hey, the BMW marketing department gave them permission!

I think doesn't Canada call the US Sport version an M-Sport?

i have had a couple of customers slap the M badge on the rear hatch there. as previously mentioned, there are quite a few factory badges on the car...so it didn't make me sick to my stomach.

As far as I know--no U.S. X3 comes with any M badges even with the sport package. If you see one on an X3 it is owner added.

Not sure this is true, actually... Buddy of mine bought his X3 with sport package and 19" staggered wheels, etc. in 2008. It came with /M in noted places...

My UK spec X3 3.0i Sport has //M decals on the door sills, a small badge on the steering wheel and small //M badges on the alloys. Definitely no //M badge on the rear hatch though.

My '08 Sport package has the same as the UK one just mentioned. M badges on the door sills, each wheel, the steering wheel, and I think one other very small place. Not on the hatch or large on the body.

I wonder what year they started using the M markings in the U.S. ??? My 04 3.0 with sport package has no M emblems at all and my large advertising brochure does not mention them either. Can anyone solve the mystery??? I don't recall ever seeing external badges on an X3 on the street.

Wish they really made an "M" class X3.
50 more hp, some real beefed up suspension, shorter throw, etc... now that would be a true utilitarian vehicle --hauls grocerys and hauls a$$--Lol.

Err...
I admit this is a terrible photo, but you can just barely see the ///M badge on the doorsill and the steering wheel. This was how I bought the car, nothing after market. Looking through the Official X3 Photo thread hear on the board, I didn't realize how rare the ///M badged X3 is. I guess, that's good for me, right?
![]() If I get a moment, I'll take a few more photos. The gear shift also has the badge on it. But it's all very subtle; there's nothing on the exterior of the car other than some very small badges on the wheels.

My 2004 X3 with sport features was known as a "SPORT PACK" and had no markings in or outside to indicate it's class. However, my 2007 X3 (also with the sport features) is marked and registerred as an "M-SPORT" and fetaures "M" markings inside the car (steering wheel, door sills, etc.) and special features outside (wheels, bodywork) - But no "M" badge at the back.
On this side of the globe you can have the "M" badge put on at the back on any model, but I think it is retarded to do this becaus it woun't be a beemer from the "M" stall! - (no offence).

As others have noted, I am almost positive no US spec X3s have M badges on the exterior of the vehicle.
This is just some loser who wanted to feel extra special and slap an M badge on his car...he should have put an AMG on while he was at it. |

Now, when BMW finally gets around to offering the twin-turbo version of the engine, they might have a case for a legitimate M label. But with X3 sales dropping like a stone, it might be hard to make a business case for an M version...even BMW has to run a business... |

One more photo
Here's a pic of the very subtle badging on the rims.

I have a 2008 X3 with the Sports package, 19" staggered wheels, sport suspension, 3.0 si 260hp versa the standard 215, it's a kick to drive weather it has the "M" logo on the outside or not.
