E39 M5 remove CATs or not?

Ok, so should I remove my CATs or not?

What will it do?

Increase performance?

What should I be aware of apart from the legal aspect?

I think it should make the noise somewhat deeper/throatier, but what do you guys think?

You will have to run simulators on the downstream sensors to trick the engine light, The only legal aspect would be emissions if you have the in your area and because of where the cats are located I doubt any "enforcer" would ever know. You would have to get the car dynoed before and after to see if there would be gains, unless someone already has dyno proof that you will lose or gain power...
