I might get a BMW, I have a few questions
I might be trading my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 with 165k miles for a 1998 BMW 740iL with 170k miles fully loaded. Do you think its worth it? The BMW runs A1 and nothing is wrong with it except the radio doesnt really work. Im guessing the water pump has already been replaced.

If you like the 740, then got for it. It will not let you down. Either way, both vehicles will have a repair cost from time to time.

the 740 will spoil you there are cars 10 years newer that lack half of what the 740il has, just make sure to have a couple hunndred bucks set to the side for unexpected maintenance- do you know it's maintenance record? how many owners has it had? how far do you drive on average and how much are they asking for it- all good questions to ask yourself IMHO. my 95 is a trooper....

Don't even hesitate! I've had a chance of owning both Jeep and BMW. I've had my 740 for 5 years now and I'm loving it every step of the way. The only thing is when owning such a car be ready to spend some extra $ or if you have the opportunity, buy an extended warranty. The car with such mileage will require some attention sooner or later. It is a good idea to learn car's maintainance record, buy a carfax report. It should have most of the info you need. Other than that, you should be thrilled and proud to own such a flagship.

Before I bought my E65 I had a 97 740iL and to say the least it was absolutely amazing. Service records would be a nice thing to review to see what has been done to the car and what you may need to anticipate in the future should you buy it. The thing is being that it has 170k on it you can assume that wear and failure items have already been dealt with such as the cooling system, possibly cats, suspension issues etc. since most of them tend to come up prior to that point. Definitely find a reputable independent mechanic who knows what he is doing. Granted they have their problems like any other car but these are amazing cars to drive.

just check the car over. try and see if you can give it an over night test drive maybe. definately give the car a good drive though. i love my '01. its roomy, comfortable, powerful and is just amazing to own. i usually find myself gawking at it in the driveway. i had always wanted an E38, bought this one last february and its been pretty good to me.

...and if you want "over the top", find yourself a nice V12 850i or Ci - nothing else like it!

I've had two 88 735i's, 1 320i and my latest, the beast I call it, 05 745i. They are awesome cars. I never owned a jeep before, but I would like to get an older porsche, like a 944. Like everyone says repair cost's will come with it, stay on the boards to keep up with the little stuff.
