Well, I just purchased a 2005 X3 with 60k on the Odo, I'm very happy with my purchase and have checked everything on the car, but have noted that the windshield washer fluid is leaking where the electronic pump meets the groomet on the reservoir, my question is: What can I do ? Can I just order the reservoir's groomet to fix the leak, if so ? where ? of course online, I prefer to avoid the dealer on this little thing. Thanks in advance for your help !

Also, I noted that mine was leaking from the pump itself, not the gromet. So, i ordered both.

Wow, our 06 X3 had all the washer fluid leak out. All the grommets look good, pumps are well seated, no cracks that i can see anywhere. Removed all , cleaned, reassembled. It looks like fluid is leaking from a small rectangular opening in one of the pumps, kneaded some epoxy patch putty, sealed it up. Reassembled, now its leaking from the rectangular opening in the other pump. What is this opening, and can i seal them up?

I just replaced the pump and grommet in my 03 M3. Same problem, but I also had a leak where the hard plastic fitting in between the hose and pump mounts to the pump. What a dumb design--I threw that part out, cut off a fresh bit of hose and put the hose directly to the pump, then sealed with the blue RTV.

I have a 2007 x3. I have washer fluid leaking into the interior of the front and back passenger sides under the carpet. Has anyone else had this problem?

Other water issues come from clogged roof drains and the catch basin in the engine compartment IIRC. |

Is there a trick to removing the coils in order to change the spark plugs?

I think the caps on the coils require a bit of force to open them upwards, to allow the connector to be removed. May need careful use of a flat bladed screwdriver to pry the caps upward. After that it should be simple pulling that is needed. Last edited by Supercourse; 10-24-2011 at 08:06 PM. |

Thanks, I was afraid to put a lot of pressure on them. My luck hasn't been running to good lately and I didn't want to have to buy one. I didn't have to use the screw driver, wiggle and pull did the trick. Unpluging the wires left a nice finger size hole to apply additional pull force. Everything went off without a hitch. Thanks again

Floor Mats Soaking,
I just had this today and the reason is a design fault. BMW in there wisdom have put a joint between the front and the rear, ie. washer bottle and rear washer jet under the carpet. Right then your going to have remove drivers seat and lift the carpets, as the "washer pipe joint" is between the hand brake and the drivers seat under centre console under the carpet. I would think it's the pressure that blows the joint, either the cold weather or dirty / blocked rear washer jet. Here's the question: Who in there wisdom would put a joint under the carpet inside the car. BMW..... Last edited by PCronn; 01-22-2012 at 02:56 AM. |

I just had a washer fluid leaking problem. I had a problem not only with the pump, but the line was leaking as well. I would advice changing the front line if you have the time as well. The strainers are $5.00 each and I would also replace them...

Just FYI on my experience with this. My wife's 2006 X3 washer fluid leaked out within a week of being filled and i noticed the leaking coming from the pump closest to the engine which feeds the windshield sprayers. I ordered a new OEM pump and grommet/strainer and replaced easily in 15 minutes, parts were about $35. Here is a little guide i put together on the process, hope it helps someone as this problem seem pretty prevalent in these cars. In fact I just looked at my aunt's 2008 X3 and saw minor leaking from one of the pumps in that as well. Pretty unbelievable that these pumps are such crap but it is what it is and at least the fix is easy.

Any difference between front and rear
Are the two wiper pumps on the 2006 X3 the same and interchangeable. I ordered a replacement wiper pump today and just noticed the description says for 'front windshield'. The one that is leaking is the one closest to the engine. Which I have assumed is for the rear as it appears the leaking starts when I spray the back.
Thanks in advance Last edited by Yomama; 12-02-2012 at 07:37 PM. |

Yes, same part # for front or back. The front headlight washer pump ( that is placed higher up and to the side of the reservoir tank ) is different & not interchangeable

Perfect thank you. I should note that I tried some of the DIY fixes noted on this forum (ie RTV, plumber putty, replace grommet). None of them worked. Ordered the pump from Ebay, $30.40 free shipping. Will let you know how it goes.

Oh no. I did search on Amazon. There was one for $7.xx but Amazon said it would not fit a 2006 X3. How about a link to the product Vern.

I got an aftermarket Uro one for $4 from ecstuning.com. It works great. Considering the frequency of failure...about 1 every 50k miles is my going rate...$4 plus shipping works for me.
