E21 Lighter

I am curious if anyone else is having this problem: I have an E21 BMW and the cigarette lighter no longer works. Is this generally a problem with the male or female part of the lighter? I just would like to know what part to replace.

it's not so hard to know just check if there's electric in the female part and if there's electric the mean the wrong will me in the male part if there's no electric check the fuse box and the line for it
