2012 future owners

Fellas, several people here have their 2012 in order. Mine seats as "on order" for 2 weeks now.

It's tough to believe a factory would wait some deadline to start production given the 2011 are not being made anymore.

Does anyone here have advanced for "in production stage"? Rather curious when I'm getting my car...

Funny you asked, after over a week on "order" status mine has finally moved into "production" today! I am actually trying to delay it for a May PCD.

2012 has already received EPA and CARB approval.

I don''t know which stage it's in. It's most likely still in the production planning/scheduling stage, not in actual production yet.

The BMW web site is often a bit out of date. Mine is currently shown as being in the "At the preparation center" stage.

I picked it up from the dealer 16 months ago and have 20,000 miles on it.

So I called the BMWNA number today and now my X5 is in the "paint shop" and the production completion date is still 3/31. My CA told me delivery was scheduled for "third week of April." No idea if that means the week of the 11th or 18th. Either way, it seems like a long time to get the car from SC to Houston.

Sounds about right. Mine is supposed to be done 4/2, and is apparently in the body shop, which is before paint. Paint and assembly both take a day, so could be done tomorrow. There's also the possibility that the phone system isn't exactly right, since dates seem to change fairly frequently.

Someone else on here mentioned that west coast cars travel via train to CA, and then to wherever they need to go, so maybe that's why it takes so long to get to you from SC.

Try calling the BMW number, option 2, use your order #. They are updated far quicker than the website. When did your order was entered?

I believe the order was placed on March 14th by the CA.

Mine was placed March 5th, and it still shows on order!! Now I really want to know how one ordered later is further in production!

It is quite possible that the other guy's dealer had an allocation in an earlier production week than your dealer did. What week production were you promised?

I believe that was the case. I remember my CA called me minutes after I fired off an inquiry to him because he had an order in place that can still be modified. Within minutes we made a deal. I love it when the CA is straight forward and can be trusted!

Often dealers have an order that was submitted earlier and for whatever reason that customer may cancel the order then the dealer can give that place in line to another customer. Sometimes the dealer may even order a car for his inventory and if an interested customer comes along he can change the options to match that customers' if it's not too late.

I believe if you have good timing that is one of the best times to get a good and quick deal. Find an unspoken for allocation that is about to go into production or an unused allocation that is about to expire for the say month.

Oh I'm quite sure that's what happened. I was given a build date of week 14, which is the first week of April. However, that still doesn't mean that I like it (or am not very jealous). I was under the impression that since I bought the car the day after the dealer was given allocation, it would be among the first produced. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll bump it up a few days.

Ordered mine on 03-05-11 as well. Excruitiating wait under way. Hey OP John, (or anyone else in the know) what number can I call for faster update?

That is all true, according to my stealership. The number of allocations vary according to the model...
The allocation for my was generated by my order, so it should take about 4 weeks anyway.

Ours just entered production today. woohoo!

Just got a call from my CA...mine apparently entered production yesterday and he expects it to be done around Friday! Can't wait! Moving from a 2000 Jetta to an X5 is gonna be quite the change!

I'm more jealous of the person who ordered 10 days after us and went into production a couple of days ago!!

I called the number, and ours says estimated completion date of Mar 31. We're in Seattle, any idea how long prep/shipping etc takes from the factory? (our prior BMW was built in Germany so I got expert at tracking ships)

signed the papers on March 9th, as of this morning, through the 800 number, its scheduled for production with no firm production date...

Signed our papers 3/15 and got same message today, in queue awaiting production date.

Funny, called my CA today to see about adding premium sound package and spare, which I left off - tells me he's not sure it's possible and very likely that car is in production. So I ask him why when I signed on 3/15 did you pretty much tell me not to bother you until May 1??

Just called the BMWNA line today. My went into production today and will be completed on 3/31.

I "ordered" in late February. My CA originally told me production was scheduled for third week of April.

Nice, just 3 days to make it
