93 740i = E34 M5?

I just bought a 93 740i. Please pardon my ignorance but are the E34 M5 designations for Euro built BMW's or what? Can someone give me an education?

No. You have a 7 series. M5s are 5 series. They are different.
You have a large luxury car with a v-8 engine. The M5 is a smaller care with a race-bred 6 cylinder engine.

Yeah, it wasnt long after I got my 93 e32, before I started lookin at e34s too !
