"Left Rear Turn Signal Malfunction" - Bulb?

I got this warning yesterday and the left blinker is not working in the rear and flashing incredibly fast in the front. From prior experience, I thought that if it was the bulb the message would reference "bulb" out or something. Have any of you have a rear blinker bulb go and is this the message you got? If so, it looks easy enough to replace. Is it the top bulb in the housing?

Sucks using hand signals and also I fear having a beer and getting pulled over.

I have to disagree fellas. Check my thread "Headlight". Bulb is fine as well as the socket housing.......tested the bulb in two other sockets. I get the "Left turn signal malfunction" but its not the bulb. I guess no one else has experienced this at all due to the lack of responses. Code pulled is 9CB6 > VHAC coil broken. No idea where this is located and highly doubt its the headlight since I've tested on more than one headlight.

I get the same thing, will be going back to the dealer a 3rd time. It's not the bulb obviously. I have a 2007 Alpina B7.

So if dash blinks fast on the left it's actually a bulb out on the right? Going to check that out. I hope you're right 1bad540

That's good news. Any idea which bulb the blinker is in the housing?

I found it, just turned the right one on DOH! Got the part number from realoem and ordered it from BAVAuto. $30 smakers shipped. It's a silver bulb that flashes amber. Probably could have saved $10 somewhere else, but I am going away on business for three days and BavAuto is in NH, right next to MA, so it will be there when I return.

Well I got an email from bavauto that it is on backorder and will take two weeks to ship. I went down to advanced auto parts and put in a straight amber bulb and it works. Can barely see the amber through the white tail but I will swap the silver coated one in when it arrives. Paid $5 for two bulbs.

My right side blinker is also out, took it to the shop and they said the whole assembly will need to be replaced for 1300.00...we changed the bulb and I think it maybe a tab that is not bent out to catch the light socket

For now I'm sticking with the code error....

I'm getting a left turn signal error also. I took it to the shop they tested the headlight and it's not the headlight. There is no power coming to one of the socket. Does anyone know if there is a turn signal module and where it's located?

Light module is right up under the driver side footwell. I don't think it's the module itself(just my opinion bcuz there should be other issues with the lights if it were that. With my experience of working on helicopters I believe it's something as simple as the plug not seated on the connector properly. Please guys whatever you do don't waste your money on a new headlight as I already have that is def not the issue.

Dealer tried to fix it, replaced every bulb and socket on the left side. Still getting error. They're trying again. Yes they are picking up the cost of this work.

Got the call. Front left headlight assembly was replaced, and fixed the problem. $1300 part if not covered by warranty, I'm 3 months out of warranty but BMW picked up the cost because it was reported 1 week after coming out.

Thats ridiculous. I brought a new headlight and no fix the dealer just quit where I was originally. Wow this is crazy!

Didn't even try to troubleshoot the problem. They just kept on recommending a new headlight assembly.

No fix I still have the problem. I took the headlight and hooked it up to the other side and it works just fine. So when I get to I am going to take apart the plug to make sure all the wires are fine.

This is an odd problem. Every once in awhile I get a left turn signal malfunction. It is pretty rare...but it does happen. All of the bulbs work fine. I have brought it into the dealer.....but of course, it doesn't do it when they have the car. I was thinking it might be the turn signal switch/arm going bad, but i'm just guessing.

Hopefully, one of us gets this diagnosed correctly.

I have exactly the same problem with the front left signal light. It happens quite frequently. It's definately not the bulb because it works at times. When it does malfunction, it'll blink very fast and the message on the dash pops up and says "left front signal malfunction" accompanied by an audible sound. Must be a loose connection somewhere.
