Probably you can replace it, but I would definitely find a car stereo shop that would do the work. Unless you are familiar with BMW circuit diagrams (which are available) and very comfortable with tearing radios apart, it is best left to those who can access cable connection set-ups designed to work with the car. After several adventures with M5 E34 radios/stereos, I believe them to be interchangeable with non-M E34s. Good luck -Gil

Plenty of car stereo shops out there that have NO CLUE about BMW wiring. Be cautious. If you can identify the manufacturer of the CD unit you may be able to just buy the generic changer (ie Pioneer, Alpine, etc) rather than huniting down a BMW model. Since so many people have upgraded their stereos, you can probably find a replacement by placing an od in the Classified section. Post your BMW part number and car info (E-code and year, and trim). I have an older (not sure of date) Alpine changer that is no longer used. I'm sure there are BMW units available.
