535i questions needing answers if possible

Hi everybody,

Being new to this place, I am hoping I could get a few answers to a few niggling problems..
I just recently purchased a 1987 535i without a owners manual and am having hassles working out some of the switches and controls as they are not exactly marked for ease of understanding whats what.............. Also I managed to download a pdf copy of it, unfortunately it was in RUSSIAN and i do not speak or read RUSSIAN meaning that I am going by the poor quality pictures alone.............. It does show the car has an adjustable steering column and yet I cannot figure out how to get access to the lever buried inside the columns plastic cover............. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your time and await a reply

Stephen

Hi, with the steering wheel, it telescopes up and down, but that is all. There is a lever that you pull up on and then you can pull the steering wheel up higher or push lower. Some times it is stuck, so you have to use some force.

What are your other questions?

I bought an owner's manual on Fleabay a few years ago. It cost me about $15. Keep your eye out for one and search the online bookstores as well. You're bound to find one sooner or later.

I appreciate the reply as I am getting a little cheesed off at the wheel being so high and especially out................. was hoping that it would at least be able to collapse in some way.
It's strange that for a EURO car it does not allow for that whereas ALL my FORD FAIRMONT GHIA'S 2x88 & 1 x 90 all had them as standard..........

So I guess I shall never be able to enjoy the ULTIMATE DRIVING EXPERIENCE as stated from BMW when they came out way back............

NOW i guess I better figure out how i am gonna manipulate the lever to see if lowering the wheel helps..........

Thanks Kindly

Stephen
