E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

Fuel pump problems on the x28's ??

I know all about the HPFP problems on the x35's but has anyone had any problems w/ 07+ 328's or 128's?

We just picked up the wife's new 128 Conv. and when she parked it in the garage i could hear a very high pitched "whine" coming from either the lower engine comp. or under the car. After a few days I decided to look into it a little more and found out when I open the door the whine starts. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump is activated as soon as the driver's door is opened.

Anyone else noticed the whine?

Why would the fuel pump turn on when you open the drivers door?

I don't know anything about the 128i but on most cars I've looked at, the fuel pump relay energizes with the ignition. On some cars, there is an air pump that runs after you switch the car off. That pump is used to check for fuel system vapor leaks.

mine makes a sort of whirring sound when I unlock the doors as well. But I doubt it's the fuel pump.

My 335i makes a similar noise. I have actually read that it does have something to do w/ the fuel pump. But to the person who started this thread, don't worry about fuel pump issues on your x28. You don't have the direct injection system w/ the HPFP that cuased so much grief for x35 owners.
