Rft problems yes or no role call
So there are a thousand threads about RFTs and bubbles and tire insurance.. I really don't care about the masses of individuals contemplating or anticipating or for that matter educating me to the rules of warranties.
GT OWNERS with 19" run flats. JUST CHIME IN HAVE YOU HAD A PROBLEM? HAVE YOU NOT HAD A PROBLEM? X DRIVE Or NO X DRIVE? Such and easy way to really figure the odds?? Thanks mp

My understanding is the majority if not all the problems tire lie with the 550/535 non GT cars.
I further understand that the GT cars have tires with higher stiffer profiles which would explain the better performance, the same as is used on the 7er cars.

hey mike,
im thinking similar however since there are plenty of non gt 550s and 535s out there with problems..i wanted to really just see how many people would actually speak up in a specific to GT forum... the more i read the more I'm thinking it actually may have more to do with the wheel...seems like so many of those with problems are running the on the 351 wheel which has only 5 spoke sets and I'm wondering if its allowing some movement in the shape of the wheel itself that causes the bubbles...if you look at those that are NOT complaining all tend to be running on wheels with spoke sets that have less large open areas between the spokes...even those running same 245 45 19s goodyear ls2's on 351 front wheels on the F10 forum are having problems but so far none on the F07 forum.. mp

After a year with my 550ix GT, there are no tire issues to report. I've hit my share of potholes, but the Goodyears are holding up.
I have 12,000 miles on it. Perhaps the wheel construction and the slightly higher profile are making the difference.

I have the 19" wheel and tire package and after 9k miles I have no issues with the RFTs. Hope this helps.

Update - 26.5K and still no issues with uneven wear or bubbles on the sidewall. Can probably make 30K before replacing.

Update....15k miles and no tire problems. However, I have had 3 wheels replaced under warrantee that were bent. Kind of interesting that the wheel would bend without hurting the tire.
Note, lots of road work around here with many pot holes and troughs in the highways.

xDrive - problem is that they wear quickly. no bubbles.
got a couple of punctures that we're repaired. still won't go with RFTs when I replace them in a few months. |

wow i barely remember starting this thread.... im 13K and 11 months in with my Gt i was sure by now i would have had an issue...driving like a nut on NYC roads to and from my NYC office, i have hit some crazy pot holes and stupid speeds...jarred a few teeth, but shockingly not a bubble or a bent rim...(knock on wood) however...my right rear wheel has the worst curb rash....
![]() HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLOW GT OWNERS!!!!!!!!!!

My 19" tires are in good shape after 8 months and 11K miles. One of them (front right) was replaced around 7K when I hit something at about 85MPH on 95 in the DC area one night at 10PM. I'm told the rim took a slight bend but not enough to impact anything. The new tire balanced with no issues. I am happy to have the RFTs because I hit something and kept going there were 10-15+ other cars on the side of the highway with flat tires. With that being said, I will still consider replacing with non RFTs just because I believe the ride would be immensely smoother.
I have made the 700 mile trip from CT to NC 3-4 times now and I love the fact that I have yet to see another GT! What a pleasure to drive this GT on a long road trip. |
