6 Series
The BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations. |

Engine malfunction
last night I turned on my 645ci and the engine started to shake, and the idrive said that engine malfunction, and something about catalytic converter. I turned the car of and restarted and it went away. But now my idle is very rough. any thoughts on what is the problem?

I highly doubt it's your cats. Probably bad gas or some other problem causing a misfire (see JPEG23's ideas).
The Merc will be no better than the 6er for maintenance. It will probably be twice as bad actually. I do love the CLS though. When it comes to high-end German cars take your pic: 1) buy a newer car with a warranty but suffer MASSIVE depreciation or 2) buy an older car for 1/2 the money and deal with the risk of the occasional big $ repairs.

I will not buy a Merc again due to poor reliability, my last one I sold because they wanted £3.3K to repair the air-conditioner, what was faulty was a fresh air stepper motor a £90 part which only ran for the first 30 secs when the ignition was switched on. But to get to it you had to take out the total dash in fact everything/////, this was the final straw with that car having already spent a fortune on other issues..... I appreciate only my experience but many people told even worse stories......
I actually believe that BMW is significantly more reliable overall than Mercedes even recognising many issue highlighted on these forums, as I have said before we focus on the negatives on issues with our cars, but that pales into nothing compared to the joy and actual reliability of our cars, as a discerning purchaser I know what I am talking about/////

It could be a number of things, but it sounds like a misfire. I had a similar issue, and after months of diagnosing (the dealer couldn't get it right after 3 trips) I fixed it myself after getting a OBDII code reader and discovering the issue was the crankshaft position sensor.
If you want to get it fixed yourself, get a code reader and when it happens again, read the code. Intermittent problems like this are a real pain, but driving the car when it's all working is sooo worth the trouble.
