Car arrived at dealer with damage :-(
Well my CA called me today with good news and bad news. Good news is that my car has finally arrived. The bad news is that there is a small amount of damage to the bumper. I have not yet seen a picture so I don't have the details but I never even drove the car out of the Welt because I was afraid I was going to end up in an accident in Europe.
Well hopefully everything will be resolved satisfactorily. I tend to be a worrier, self admittedly, so my concern is....what happens when I go to pickup the vehicle and it is apparent that it was repaired? I am so dissapointed. All I can do is wait and hope for the best at this point.

You do realize that if you had driven the car in Europe and did get in an accident (pretty unlikely, unless you're a really bad driver) that the car would have been repaired (unless it was totaled) at absolutely no cost to you ($0 deductible)? The Allianz insurance provided by BMW during European Delivery is probably the best insurance you will ever have. You probably worry too much!

Is the car at the VDC or your local dealer? If it is at your dealer with damage it was likely done when being loaded or unloaded onto the truck at the VDC. The VDC almost always detects any damage incurred in Europe or while in transit from Europe. It will be fine. My Z4 suffered some front bumper damage but it was repaired and you cannot tell it was ever damaged.

the car is at the dealer so the damage likely happened by the transport company.
And to the previous poster.....yes i do worry too much ![]() I do however appreciate the encouraging comments....it is good therapy. My CA has been awesome and I know I should have all the confidence that everything will be incredible. |

Like you, I didn't drive my latest ED car either. It was mid-January of 2010 and I took delivery of a Z4 with the Sport Package so it had summer tires. Temps were in the 20s with snow predicted for the next 3 days. I had the car delivered to the drop off point in Munich and I spent 3 days touring Munich and the surrounding area using public transit. Still had a great time.

My car (not ED) was damaged getting loaded on the truck at the VDC, so they took it off and repaired it, which delayed it about a week. I never could see where the damage had been. Since it is at the dealer, I think I would ask to see the damage before it's repaired, so you can inspect the repair and make sure it's undetectable.

My M3 had a very very minor dent on front air dam that I put there while driving it in Europe-- a very very small dent. The bumper was removed and repainted by VDC in Brunswick which took about a week.
Two local body shops that looked at the hood alignment problem that I have immediately identified the front bumper as having been repainted-- with differing opinions of the quality of the work (one said "very good" the other said "fair"). But, in any case, each was instantly able to tell the bumper had been repainted without me telling them, which was somewhat less than encouraging. Additionally, I sought to get a detailed list of repairs that had been done on the car before it was delivered to be a performance center for future reference (and for that matter in case I ever want to sell it) and no such list was never provided to me, despite my requests. So, you might be just as well off with your local dealer's repair/paint shop. Last edited by Jon90; 04-12-2012 at 08:45 PM. |

I would ask for a repainted new bumper in lie of the typical repainted bondo approach.

They'll fix it and you will never know it was damaged. It'll delay you a tad, but that will be the worst of it. No worries.

to the OP, are you serious, you decided to ED, flew halfway around the world, spent all that money and never even bothered to drive your car out of the Welt?
![]() I understand the other poster didn't feel comfortable driving on summer tires in the winter, that's a real safety concern.... Am I missing something here? |

looks like the same situation for the OP, if he just got delivery probably had Ed in Feb also with a Z4 on sport tires...if he didn't get winter tires and weather was bad not sure I'd blame him. Of course, I was able to hit 120 pretty easily with my winter tires on in good conditions...but different strokes etc...
