cat delete question
k so the comb in my cat is broken a little and the rattle from the inside is so annoying. i just passed emissions so i want to remove the cat. i don't want to do a straight pipe all the way, i want the muffler. does anyone know where i can find a pipe that is bolt on in place of my cat? i know it's out there i just can't find it. i don't want any cutting or welding. thanks

nothing would be available that would be 'legal', so no. i don't think that you'll find a direct bolt on product. shops won't do it, wither, as it is a federal clean air act violation to remove the cat without replacing it on a street car.
your options are deal with it, turn the radio up, or manage to get a different exhaust to either replace or fabricate and swap it out. either way, there is most likely going to be cutting and/or welding of some sort. df

Oh okay. I've seen bolt on replacements for mustangs. I guess I'm gonna have to blow the cone out. I don't know anyone reliable to make one

If you remove the catalyst from the system you will get a check engine light. Best suggestion is to find a decent used set, they sometimes appear on craigslist.

Also, you could buy an AA track pipe, but those are like $550... not worth it IMO.. This is what mine looks like.. I just cut out my cats and welded in straight pipes.

I can deal with a check engine light but I figured why not leave an open space. I'm sure it will give a little more power and won't sound obnoxious

Depends on where you live if you'll fail inspection or not on a cat delete (here in tx you can pass in certain counties and fail in others, Dallas does smog testing but my current county (Wichita) doesn't)

Easy solution is to remove the cat, cut 2 inch square on top of it, ice pick the material out of, weld the 2 inch square metal back on it. But back on the car. |

Just knock all the honeycomb crap out of the stock one with a long flathead and hammer it's just ceramic like material and breaks apart easy

thanks for your help guys. i didn't want to break up the comb because when i have emissions i could put the cat back in as it passed last week. i found a guy who will cut it out and put in a pipe. performance gain? if not who cares.. i'm not trying to buy an exhaust set up

As his car is a 323is, he will have a check engine light because his car is OBD2. He has 2 O2 sensors, and the one after the cats are there to make sure the cats are doing their job. If the cats are plugged or broken the sensor will detect this and throw a code and check engine light. Only way to fix this is to get an O2 sensor simulator, but your engine performance still won't be optimum. I actually have seen test pipes online for sale online, but they're almost as expensive as a new set of cats. Bottom line is if your cats are broken it is highly recommended that you just replace them.

obd2 gets a CEL
obd1 doesnt get a cel because the only 02 sensor is precat

Do this muffler/cat delete...electronic valve control back pressure, custom switch to adjust to your liking (pull the cel bulb out jk)

you're driving a 323, you will see power gains from yanking your cats.
