E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

  • BMW Performance Exhaust System
  • Exclusive 135is 18" Alloy Wheels
  • Aluminum Glacier Trim
  • Black Leather with blue contrast stitching (optional)
  • M Sport Suspension
  • M Aerodynamic Kit
  • M Sport Steering Wheel with shifting paddles
  • Sport Seats
  • Anthracite Headliner
  • Black Mirror Caps
  • BMW Individual High-gloss shadow line

The full press release from BMW is below with more details...

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – May 15, 2012 12:00PM EDT….. In the long standing tradition of high performance BMW "is" models, BMW today announced an enhanced performance version of the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible called the BMW 135is. The 2013 135is Coupe and Convertible focus the qualities that made the 135i such a success amongst driving enthusiasts – with more performance, enhanced sound and dynamic design details. Both the new 135is Coupe and Convertible are scheduled to arrive in BMW Center showrooms this fall with retail pricing set at $44,145 and $48,845 respectively (including $895 destination and handling).

Both models are equipped with BMW's award winning TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine (N55) featuring Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology, direct injection and a single twin-scroll turbocharger. For the 135is, the engine has been tuned to increase peak horsepower to 320 hp (+20 hp increase) and 317 lb-ft of torque (+17 lb.ft) while maintaining the same emissions level and MPG ratings of the 135i. A Performance exhaust system complements the increased engine performance and provides a sporty exhaust tone. The engine cooling system has been upgraded to match the additional performance output by adding a larger, and more powerful radiator fan and an auxiliary radiator.

Both BMW 135is models will be offered with either a standard 6-Speed manual transmission or an optional 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission.

The 135is is equipped with sport suspension incorporating an aluminum double-pivot front suspension and a five-link fully independent rear suspension in lightweight steel.

BMW's Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) also includes a Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) function that provides electronic intervention to prevent loss of vehicle control, but at a higher threshold before activation. This allows the driver to experience more spirited driving on dry roads and offers more flexibility when driving in more challenging conditions such as in snow. If the driver desires, both DSC and DTC can be disabled entirely. In addition to its duties as a safety system, the DSC system on the 135is is programmed specifically to enhance performance-oriented driving.

The differential in the 135is comes from a new generation of final drives optimized for running smoothness and fuel efficiency. Featuring double-helical ball bearings, the differential runs at an even lower operating temperature reached more quickly than before thanks to the reduction of fluid required in the differential. Electronic rear brake management is used to simulate a differential lock for stronger acceleration in turns and low-traction conditions.

The exterior of the new 135is Coupe / Convertible will be clearly identified by exclusive 18" wheels, unique high-gloss black kidney grill, black mirror caps and special exterior badges in additional to the standard M Sport Package components. Interior highlights include stainless steel pedals, special interior badges and optional black leather seats with blue stitching for the standard sport seats.

The BMW135is Coupe and Convertible are available to order now and are scheduled to arrive in BMW Center showrooms this fall.

Looks nice, but at that price they should call it the "1M minus M".

That's one of the colors available for the sport plus edition in the UK, so you know Leipzig has it available to use.

I love this car! The 1 Series, and the 135 in particular, is BMW at its best if you ask me.

Agree, price is kind of steep for mostly cosmetical upgrade.

Bummer! I am a 5 days from picking up my new 135i convertible , manual, m-pak, at the Welt. I definitely would have ordered the i-s if it was available. I guess now I'll just have to wait for an M2 in a few years!

No, this is not the same as the M135. This is the older E82 chassis whereas the M135 is the new F20 chassis that has not made it's way to the United States yet.

135is on order - I'm in the club

Just sharing my anticipation having just ordered my new 135is, Alpine white coupe with beige interior. Should be here in 6 - 8 weeks... can't wait. I was considering a 2012 135i with M sport package but the 2013 135is isn't actually much more expensive and the dealer I bought from here in CT gave me a very good deal (traded in my Mini Cooper S JCW). Many years ago I owned a 1970 2002, white with beige interior. I'm buying into BMW's pitch that the 135 is a reincarnation of the 2002 and plan to enjoy my trip down memory lane. My one concern right now is finding wheels and snow tires for the winter (Connecticut). I know there are wheel / snow tire combinations available for the 135i and hope they fit the 135is.

Congrats! The 135i may be the reincarnation of the 2002 size wise and to some degree tossable wise, but it won't, of course, really be a reincarnation of the 2002. It will be much less raw.

Having owned 3 2002s back in the day, and now own a 135i; I can assure you that the 135i is much more car than the old 2002 ever was. But, the 1er is closest thing to the original BMWs of all the vehicles BMW makes today.

The 135i MSport is BMWs best-kept secret..

Just got my production number

I went with carbon black, oyster interior (in Miami), premium, technology, Harmon kardon, alarm, pdc.

Will be an interesting juxtaposition to my 2011 X5d.

2 guys here received their 135is'...http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733405

Fair warning, apparently there has been some inconsistent "standard" options--One guy gets the medal pedals, other guy dosesn't. One guy gets the blk side mirrors, other guy didn't (this might be related to CB ). Neither received the full-black kidney grilles (like the 335is) or blacklines.

My SOP is in a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping things gets worked out by then

Thanks for the link to the other forum... great pics. Will be interesting to see what shows up. Do you think the deck spoiler is standard? My dealer says its not but I see it in the second set of pics he posted.

Careful not to confuse those Carbon Black 1ers. "Ray" who started the Thread received the US-Spec 135is (as did the LBM guy ("Ace") toward the end of the Thread). The other CB pics are from an Aussie. Their "Special Edition" models seemed similar to our "is" versions.

BTW, do you recall the date your "is" started production? Curious how long it took from start of production to get loaded on a boat.

I just looked closely at the first set of Ray731 pics where the car is wet, there is definitely a deck spiler there too ... I hope its standard
