Can somebody please check this ASAP

Can somebody please go out to there car, start it up and go over to the gas cap and take it off... Do you hear a vacuum sound like the cap was being sucked on.. trying to figure this p1434 code out. May ne my pump bad buy i need to know if there is a vacuum while trying to take cap off.

I took my new cap off and it was like dead air. No vacuum or pressure..

Thanks. At dealer now knowing if i need to buy part..

Well thanks for checking dgoodsell. I appreciate you checking for me.. They say its intermittent as to when it comes on and pressurize/vacuum the fuel system for a check. We will see...

if its a evap purge or vent cofe replace the purge valve in motor compartment take plastic cover off its fairly simple NOT for butchers tho

Not sure what part or location your talkin about alpinaman. No work has ever been done in the front of vehicle. Was mentioned issue could be gas cap replacement or something called the DMTL pump that pressurizes the fuel system/tank for potential leaks i think... ?

purge valve is located on the driver side engine compartment if you take covers out .. you will see a yellow plastic hose follow the hose toward the intake plenum .. theres a solonoid and another harder plastic hose

thats your purge valve ..

I can't remember the exact code I had, but something similar to this hit me about 2 years ago (I'm pretty sure the code mapped to a purge valve issue) on the BMW. I noticed a pattern that the error appeared right after I had put fuel in the car and then eventually went away after driving around a few days. Upon closer inspection of the gas cap, I noticed the seal around the gas cap itself had started to warp (cupped and pushed in the middle) and was cracking on the edges, so I ordered a new cap. Haven't had a problem since! Unfortunately I don't recall the exact code other than it being purge valve related, but maybe take a look at the seal on your cap to see if it is in good shape.

Well just so happens i went to the dealership and picked up a new gas cap for $26 a couple days ago. I also bought an OBD2 scanner to look or clear alarms but havent taken out of box yet. May rwturn it and get the entry level one.. anyway driving around today and started it up... Alarm cleared on its own so must have been the cap.. glad that was the issue.

Now when somebody does a search maybe this thread will pull up for them. Cause i really couldnt find much..

I have the code P1434 as well. I just bought a gas cap from the dealer and replaced old one. How long does it take before the service engine light go off?

It's a random test so they said it should clear itself within the next 15 drives or so.. Not just a start-stop of the engine. The self test is random. It will clear itself or you can clear the alarm yourself with an ODB or something. I think mine took 2 days before it cleared on its own.

I tried to pull the battery negative for an hour. Just cleared date/time but the error was still there. Hopefully the code will clear the next couple of days cause I need a smog.

It's not a major issue and I don't think pulling the neg would eliminate the code. Maybe somebody else may know more about that but if u don't have a scanner I would just give it a few days. When it happened to me. I just looked at the dash randomly the next day and noticed it wasn't Showing issue anymore. Keep us posted so we can help if that's not the problem but I'm sure u will be fine.

Yesterday when I bought my gas cap, dealer sold me a similar gas cap but has a blue rubber lining instead of the original with green. Dealer told me its the updated version. Is that the same gas cap you guys purchased? Hopefully it will do the trick.

Went to O'Reilly and one of the guys plugged his OBDII reader and let me reset the light. Anybody kno how many miles I have to drive before it's ready to be smogged?

I just resetted the light today. I need to get it smogged tomorrow. Hopefully the system will be ready by then and pass smog.
