No X3 35D?
Hi all
After 10 years of driving diesel BMWs in the UK, I'm off to live and work in the US for a few years - can't wait! ![]() As it's the MidWest I'll be moving to, I thought a 4x4 would be handy for the 6 months of snow every year, and given my disappointment with the dynamics of the F10, I figured the X3 would be a good compromise of practicality and fun without being too much of a boat like the X5 (disclaimer: this assumption is based on the relative merits of a 320D MSport vs an F10 SE with variable dampers etc) The XDrive 35d's 3.0-litre stright-six diesel develops 313bhp and 464lb-ft of torque, reaching 62mph in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 149mph, delivering 46mpg. Why on earth doesn't the US Market get this option? It's amazing! Jason |

We've been complaining about getting stiffed on the diesels for years, but all we got was the X5 3.5d and the 335d (now discontinued for the USA). I'd have taken a X3 35d in a heartbeat over the 3.5i. In any case, welcome to the USA!

The Merc GLK is releasing the 2.0L diesel with the minor refresh for 2013 (at least in Canada, donno about the US) so that might be an option. Here in Canada. Merc sell 80% diesel when compared to the same gasoline powered models here.
Ya, most Americans don't understand the benefits of diesel and likely the Oldsmobile diesels of the 80's killed future diesel prospects. An alternative to the diesel X3 in NA would be the Volks Toureg Tdi. I test drove one before I purchased my X3 and was very impressed.. it felt much smaller to drive than what it is. My wife didn't like the styling so it got axed without much more discussion. ![]() Quote:

A group of diesels are going to show up here in "the colonies" next year. Audi will be offering its TDI in the Q5 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee will finally allow its very nice VM Motori turbo V6 diesel to be sold here. Slightly uprated from the european version to compete with BMW and M-B. Porsche will also provide us with their Cayenne diesel
as well. Unfortunately for whatever reason BMW is not going to give us the X3 diesel here. Now then, you can also get any of the big 3 heavy duty pickups in diesel -- but you probably don't want to do that because getting one of those can be addictive! You will find yourself wearing levi's, boots, a snakeskin hat band around your stetson, and listening to bluegrass music and just smiling a lot! Welcome to the land of the free and home of the brave! |

I suggest buying either the Audi Q5 or Merc GLK diesels. BMW's marketing people like to drag their feet on introducing diesel models to the US.

Wierd, I saw one just the other day. And it was diesel as the reason I paused to look was to hear the engine running.

You are in the DC/Beltway area -- if it had diplomatic plates it actually could have been a X3d brought in (or purchased here as an "overseas" sale) by a dip or foreign military individual on assignment here -- just as our dips and military do on assignment in their countries. Just a thought.
