over lease miles charge?

Just had my new 2012 7 series bmw for 4 months now and it already looks like I'm going to be driving more than I had planned during the lease period. What is the best way to approach getting more miles added to a lease? Do I just wait till the lease is over and pay whatever? Seems like I heard once that you can have miles added to a lease during for less than at the end but I'm not sure. How do I even find out how much it will be per mile over?

Are you planning to lease another BMW because if you are I wouldn't stress. If you go over and lease another BMW they will not charge for the over mileage and depending on your dealer you might be able to get out of your lease early before the mileage goes because all BMW is concerned about is selling new cars and keeping customers.

I've leased BMW's in the past and my dealer took one my leased cars in a year before the lease was up because I leased another car from them. You could also speak to your dealer or BMW financial and see what they can do if you plan to walk away at the end of your lease.

You can purchase extra miles at a discounted rate any time until 4 months before the lease ends.
After that point, the miles are full price, which on a 7-series is $0.25 per mile.
Just wait for now. No point in paying for the extra miles until the deadline is closer.
FWIW, the dealer has no authority to forgive miles at the end of your lease. They frequently tell people the miles will be forgiven, but they are really just rolling the cost into the next lease. Same holds true when they let you out of the lease early. The cost is rolled into the cost of the next car. It's just a matter of juggling numbers, but trust me the money gets collected one way or another.

Agree with last post
20 cents a mile prior to the deadline then 25 cents Best to wait just in case your driving habits change

Another option is to sell the car to Carmax at, or close to, the end of your term, if the residual and the offer from Carmax make sense to do so, of course.

ah great responses, I went to the bmw site and they actually have a place where you can login and 'buy' extra miles on the spot. I think RGSM had the best advice to wait since you never know until it gets closer. But at least now I have the peace of mind knowing its pretty easy to do.

I will likely lease another 7. I'm hoping to ride this lease out until the new body style comes out in like 2016? For that I may have to extend this lease as well.

Great question sdadept. This has been a big concern to me also. Fortunately, I have other vehicles to drive it I have to. If it's true, it is also good news that if you lease another BMW, they will not beat you up if your over the mileage.

The Carmax is another great option. Two years ago I took my 08' Lexus into them because I was not driving it and they gave me a fair price. I didn't have to hassle with trying to sell it myself.

BTW, I think the new body style is 2015.
