trunk lock continuous click when key turned to left

my 328 ic trunk would not open, so I went to dealership and they clipped something. then it would not lock, so I bought new piece for it. but not it still does not lock. when i insert key and turn it to the right nothing happens. when it turn it to the left there is a continous clicking sound. any ideas what is happening?

The microswitch under the tonneau cover is not triggering. The electronic system that it connects to is being told the cover is open, and to not allow the trunk to move, which would cause damage to the trunk lid and the tonneau cover.

Place your right hand on the tonneau cover on the passenger side and put your weight on it, you should hear a click. With your left hand, operate the trunk button to open the trunk.
