I LOVE THIS FEATURE. It turns long trips into ride-alongs. Just set a speed, find a car to follow, and control the steering wheel only. Whoever gets this won't regret it

Ace, I've heard that with any retrofitting of ACC or replacement of the radar head, the system has to be specially calibrated and here in the UK at least, there's only a handful of dealers with the necessary equipment to do it.
Also, surely this would require a different control module? Or is it just a case of coding the VO? |

Hi Dan E65, yes I know that BMW likes to make all this sound really complicated, but it is no different to aiming a headlight. I have removed mine myself and then re-aligned it myself in my garage at home, and it works fine. Here in Oz the BMW dealer charges $150 to align it...... I don't know what they charge you there...... but it's NOT complicated... as I said it is the same as aiming a headlight.
In relation to the control module......the ACC unit is the Control Module.....it's all in one. The radar eye head is the forward looking part of the module. There are no other required modules. It just connects onto the PT-CAN and becomes a part of the PT network.
Here is the wiring diagram..... http://wds.spaghetticoder.org/en/svg...6947.svg?m=e65 Last edited by AceFX; 07-14-2012 at 06:26 AM. |

The ACC is programmed to distances in relation to time. So the faster you are going the longer the distance, the slower you are going the shorter the distance. At what speed are you saying it's not close enough?
The times are calculated at the time you are in seconds at your current speed following the vehicle ahead. |

So at 60MPH it'll be leaving 88ft. per Second of distance So at 70MPH it'll be leaving 102. 667 per second of distance, etc. It's basically your Feet/Second at your current speed. |

Yes Lastcombo, it connects into the PT-CAN (Power Train) and turns standard Cruise Control into Active Cruise Control. You have seen all my DIY's that I do. I will do one for this too if you need it

I read from your comment above that I may be able to turn my ACC into standard Cruise Control? If so, do you have a DIY to achieve it? thx

So getting back on topic, this is a feature I'd really like but as I've already discussed with Ace over PM, the item he's offering is not suitable for my car.
I reckon we should start making some headway on a retrofit DIY... Looking at the wiring diagrams, there appears to be 6 pins on the connector on the back of the radar head. These are two for PT-CAN, two for voltage, one for ground and one going to the CAS (could be wrong about this last one). The connections are made behind the bumper in the foglight area where I suspect there should be a short loom leading to a splice point. I havent checked on mine yet but I doubt there'll be a plug there ready and waiting! There are details on RealOEM for the plug housing and pin part numbers if one needs to be made from scratch. Once this has been fitted you'll need a new section of grille with a hole in it for the radar head to see out - fairly cheap from the dealer. After this, you need the ACC stalk, again not expensive from the dealer. Does the steering wheel need to be removed to fit this? That brings about issues with the airbag etc. I suppose the final stage will be adding the string to the VO, which I've found to be $541 (for ACC2 on the facelift model anyway). I reckon it'll take a bit more scouring of the WDS to work it out. But even so, I reckon it's still very do-able. |

I want this so bad, but my bank account is still recovering from my last round of repairs. Hope it goes to a good owner!

That is correct. Can I disable ACC & just have standard Cruise Control?
