2013 Z4 started production today

I'm told the 2012 Z4 stopped being made yesterday and today the MY '13 started production.

I guess it doesn't take much time to get the factory spooled up for this MY?

There are no changes to speak of as far as I know.

BMW changed the roof mechanism to allow raising and lowering the top at low speeds.

European cars have had this since March 2012 production but US Z4s weren't supposed to get it until MY 2013.

Production of my 2013 z4 was completed on July 12.
I suspect that every Z4 made after July 1 has been M.Y. 2013.

Just curious... did you order with a navigation system (option #609)... if so, will it be the NEW software, or old? Ordering my 35is tomorrow and planning on taking European Delivery.... kinda excited

I did order the Nav system, but don't know if it will be the updated version. It will probably be a month until I receive delivery.

FYI... I received word from a VERY reliable source with this information...

"The Z4 has the same 609 Nav Professional system as all other BMW models, except of the MY13 7 Series and 3 Series Wagon, that come with an updated system. The Z4 will keep its current system until end of production, so no need to wait. Also there will be no aftersales upgrade offered."

So, sorry to say that yours will be the current system... as well as mine that is being ordered tomorrow...

Yup. But coming from the CCC in my 335i, I'm sure I'll be able to live with this system. IIRC, a retrofit of the new system into our CIC cars would be a major undertaking and not just a component swap and software flash. Not sure about that, though.


For those who have placed orders recently/ are getting ready to place them, here is my timeline so far:

7/17/2012: Order submitted, deposit placed
7/20/2012: Production number issued
7/23/2012: Status 112 entered (as reported by BMW NA call center)
7/26/2012: Status 150 entered; estimated completion date 8/9/12

Do you mean the new system that is being put in some of the F series cars? I believe that is a software and hardware upgrade and no E series cars will be getting it. My 2013 35i went into production today..I'm almost certain it will have the same iDrive the 2012s did.

Which makes me wonder - will BMW product a Z5 someday? Curious minds and all...

I know we have the old idrive system in the 2013. So maybe that means the same for the Navigation...

...which makes me wonder: Some day, will there be a Z5? That is, of course, some day in the future, the Z4 production will come to an end. So, will there be a major update and the Z4 re-emerging in a new generation as a Z5? Perhaps even something battery powered?

I think the Zegato is the Z4 replacement...

He didn't mention anything about the LCI. Since the test car had camo on in the spyshots, I'm assuming my car will be more or less the same aesthetically as the 2012 model.

I just returned from an ED. 2013 Z4 35is. It looks very similar to the 2012 model year.
I think in January the changes will go into effect regarding the spy shots... They have to do sonething since the competition redisigned theirs, imo.

You are probably looking at 6 - 8 weeks for delivery to CA.

My 35is delivery date is 10/10... you going to pick it up as well? Maybe the same b-day and we can play on the roads in Germany!
